Sabah rep slams MACC inaction over graft scandal

A Sabah assemblyperson has accused the MACC of inaction regarding the state’s alleged corruption and abuse of power scandal.

In a Facebook post, Moyog assemblyperson Darell Leiking highlighted that despite the airing of KiniTV’s exclusive interview with Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) Sdn Bhd CEO Jontih Enggihon, nothing has been done to hold those allegedly involved accountable.

“MACC seems inactive, and those accused appear to be healing (at ease) as if nothing had been committed.

“It makes my blood boil, thinking that nothing is being done to rope those alleged corrupt actors,” the Warisan deputy president lamented.

In November last year, Sabah’s political scene was rocked by an exposé by Malaysiakini, which reported a whistleblower claiming to have evidence of corruption involving eight assemblypersons, including Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.

The whistleblower later released exclusive videos via KiniTV featuring Jontih, who claimed that Hajiji had been protecting the interests of a particular contractor.

Jontih also asserted that he had proof against Hajiji and denied any collusion with the whistleblower behind the corruption video.

Hajiji had dismissed the incriminating videos in the scandal as “edited” and said the corruption allegations were unfounded, though he later suggested that the recorded conversations may have been about political donations.

On Jan 3, MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed that investigators were working on the graft scandal and expected to complete their investigation by the end of January.

Having repeatedly watched the interview, Darell reiterated his call to end the alleged abuse of power and corruption in Sabah.

“Corruption is not normal! It is a serious crime that destroys Sabah’s future!

“We cannot ignore this scandalous episode in Sabah. We must continue the fight as the enforcement authorities continue to overlook this scandal!” he said.
