Don't be hasty in switching from Umno to PKR, Zahid tells Zafrul

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he has advised Tengku Zafrul Aziz not to make a hasty decision about leaving the party for PKR.

This followed rumours about the Umno supreme council member contemplating joining the party of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Zahid said he gave the advice to Zafrul when the investment, trade and industry minister met him last week.

“I admit that Zafrul had come to me last week, and I had given him my view that he should not make a hasty decision now because he is still a minister and also the Kota Raja Umno division chief.

“Besides, he is also a member of Umno supreme council, so he should not rush (in making decisions).

“He agreed with me on this, and Insya Allah, as of today, he is still an Umno member,” Zahid told reporters during a buka puasa event in Kuala Lumpur today.

In December, Anwar, who is PKR president, confirmed there were discussions within the party about Zafrul joining them.

Anwar reportedly said PKR always opens its door to anyone who can contribute to its struggle.

However, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party would never allow party hopping among members of the federal coalition government.

On Feb 10, Zafrul said he would discuss it with Zahid before deciding.
