Anthony Loke has been re-elected as the DAP secretary-general by the party’s new central executive committee.

“There is no reshuffle today,” he joked after announcing his re-election during the press conference to cap off the DAP election today.

For the rest of the CEC, there were major changes.

Loke’s deputies are Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, and Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo was elected chairperson by the 30-member CEC, with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming as his deputy.

The delegates greeted the announcement of Gobind’s role with cheers while chanting the Damansara MP’s name.

They have five vice-chairpersons: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim, Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, and Nilai assemblyperson J Arul Kumar.

Former DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng was elected the party’s national adviser.

‘Loke’s night’

After being asked a few questions at the press conference, Lim declined to respond, saying that it was “Loke’s night”.

“I will answer you another day, but tonight, the moment is Loke’s.

“We have to stay united under Loke’s leadership,” he added.

Lim did say, however, that he accepted the decision made by his fellow party members.

In return, Loke said: “Let me reiterate that the strength of the party lies in the entire leadership and the entire people. We work as a team.”

The moment was a bittersweet ceasefire between the heads of the party’s largest factions.

Other leaders

Others elected to positions in the CEC include Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham as treasurer, with Kinrara assemblyperson Ng Sze Han as his assistant.

Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin will serve as the national publicity secretary, with Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman and Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi assisting her.

The international secretary is Kasthuri Patto, and her assistant is Lanang MP Alice Lau.

Loke said the internal CEC election to appoint the party’s leaders took less than half an hour.

“This shows that all selections made were done unanimously without any competition in any role within the committee,” he added.

The post of DAP parliamentary leader, however, has not been decided, and the CEC has yet to make any additional appointments to the committee.
