Anwar puzzled by Muslims who fast but steal from rakyat

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he was puzzled by some Muslims who observe fasting during Ramadan but could still steal from the people.

"How can you have no integrity at work? How can you clock in but not follow the schedule? How can you steal?

"How can you stash money in safehouses and still fast? Where's the integrity in that?" he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times in a speech during a breaking fast event in Penang last night.

While Anwar did not name anyone, his remarks appeared to be a jab at former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is under MACC investigation over corruption and money laundering.

On March 3, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that Ismail Sabri was a suspect in their investigation into government spending on the Keluarga Malaysia promotional campaign.

The case saw anti-graft officers raiding several premises including a condo unit in the Klang Valley that was supposedly used as a safehouse, and seized over RM177 million in cash and gold.
