The New Straits Times reported Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's praise of the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) for a job well done and reminded it to discharge its duties with fairness.

Star wrote that AirAsia had received the government's nod yesterday to operate two flights daily to Singapore.

The Sun headlined that two police officers were charged with using fake witness statements pertaining to a businessman said to be involved in illegal activities. It also reported that auditors from the National Audit Department will now be placed in all public agencies to prevent mismanagement of funds.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia reported that the ACA has charged three more people from the Youth and Sports Ministry for making false statements pertaining to the purchase of digital cameras for the use of a youth institute in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

Utusan also highlighted that Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim has given a statement to the ACA over the video clip scandal.

Berita Harian led with a story about another unsolved murder - Rekha Abdullah,10, who disappeared in Wangsa Maju on Aug 20 and whose body was found about month later.

Chinese newspapers

Oriental Daily News reported that the government would set a maximum number for foreign workers in each sector.

Sin Chew Daily front-paged the statement by ACA director-general Ahmad Said Hamdan that they would not apply double standards in investigating those involved in corruption.

Nanyang Siang Pau reported the ACA has recorded statements from the chief justice and Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in relation to the 'Lingam tape'.

Editorial

The New Straits Times thinks that more transparent procurement processes and procedures would help to reduce the opportunity for corruption.

Berita Harian is of the view that internal auditing is required in government agencies and that the ACA should investigate any misconduct.

The Sun opined that the spat between the immigration department and tourism ministry can be resolved by telling that immigration and other officials to do their job as diligently, adhere to rules, not to compromise - but to also smile and be courteous.

Sin Chew Daily said co-ordination between the ACA, police and Attorney General's Chambers should be enhanced.

Oriental Daily News opined that the development of space technology would waste public resources.

Nanyang Siang Pau said the government should protect children being held in detention by separating them from adult prisoners.
