Royal addendum: Najib files report against ex-AG

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, through his lawyer Shafee Abdullah, lodged a police report against former attorney-general Ahmad Terrirudin Salleh over the royal addendum.

In the report, Najib accused Terrirudin of “deliberately” misleading the High Court by submitting that the royal addendum’s existence was merely speculative.

“At the hearing, Terrirudin instructed his federal counsel to object to the application on the grounds that it was ‘speculative’, thereby implying the addendum order did not exist despite being fully aware of its existence and had communicated this falsity to the court by letter as well,” Najib said.

Shafee filed the report at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters this afternoon on Najib’s behalf.

Last month, he filed an application citing Terrirudin for contempt, with Shafee saying the then-AG had direct knowledge of the order by Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The issue revolves around a supplementary royal decree reportedly issued on Jan 29 last year that permitted the incarcerated Najib to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.

Terrirudin was the attorney-general when the Pardons Board met last year and decided to give Najib a discount on his jail time and fine in relation to the SRC International corruption case.

In Najib’s report, he said Terrirudin violated Sections 204 and 209 of the Penal Code by hiding a document from being used as evidence in judicial review proceedings and making a dishonest claim in court.

“I hereby request that a thorough investigation be conducted against Terrirudin and any parties involved, so that justice can be upheld and Sultan Abdullah’s decree can be respected and fully implemented,” he asserted.

No response

Shafee told reporters that Najib had requested to leave Kajang Prison temporarily to lodge the report.

“But his application did not receive any sort of positive response,” the lawyer added.

According to him, Najib made the request over a week ago.

Najib has been serving time at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after his conviction in an abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering case involving RM42 million from SRC International, a former subsidiary of troubled sovereign wealth fund 1MDB.

Najib is relying on the existence of the royal addendum to back his civil court bid to compel the Home Ministry and the Prison Department to execute the house arrest.
