Cops probing 'doctor' scam that tricked schoolgirls into sending nude photos

Perak police have opened an investigation into a case involving two 15-year-old schoolgirls who were tricked into sending nude photographs to a man posing as a doctor.

According to the police, the girls were contacted via Telegram by an individual claiming to be a teacher, who later introduced them to a man presenting himself as a medical professional.

Manjung police chief Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the victims were manipulated into providing personal and family information and were told that photographs were required for cervical and breast cancer examinations.

“The ‘teacher’ then introduced the girls to another man who claimed to be a doctor,” Hasbullah was quoted as saying by The Star.

“The photos were sent through the same app, as it was claimed that photos would suffice without a physical examination,” he added.

The matter came to light after the girls confided in their actual teacher. Fearing their photos might be misused, they lodged a police report.

“The girls realised they had been deceived after informing their real teacher and subsequently lodged a police report, fearing their photos would be spread,” Hasbullah said.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which criminalises the use of children in the production of sexual content.

Remain alert

Hasbullah reminded parents and educators to remain alert and proactive in shielding children from online predators.

“Children and school pupils should always be reminded not to give or share their details with unfamiliar individuals easily.

“We also urge people to activate two-step verification on messaging apps to protect their accounts,” he added.
