'Pondan', 'bocor' or ‘terowong’ are some of our MPs favourite words. Now we even have an minister challenging a woman to a fist-fight - fancy that.
On Sothi: I meant elections, not a fist-fight
Peter Ooi: Our ruling party's MPs and ministers are rightly labelled as half-past-six. They speak without substance and are very fond uttering words which any ordinary guys would shun using. Words like 'pondan', 'bocor' or ‘terowong’ were some of their favourites.
Now we even have an minister challenging a woman to a fist-fight - fancy that. You can't stoop to a level lower than challenging a lady to a fight. There is no use trying to explain that the challenge was to fight in an election. The video recording speaks for itself.
From the video, it is very clear that the minister was asking for a fist-fight with the lady MP. How could the minister still claim to be Yang Berhormat when he was behaving in such ungentlemanly manner. Shame! Shame! Untold shame and disgrace!
On my part, I am ashamed to have such a minister.
Siew Hwa: The letter by Colin A Pereira to the prime minister is certainly food for thought to Malaysiakini readers as well as the prime minister - if he cares to read it.
In the last paragraph of the letter in which he admonished the prime minister to do the right thing and be assured that the entire nation would stand with him is indeed inspiring. The question is.... will Abdullah Badawi cares to leave behind an endearing legacy?
On Ramli in court for use of police plane
Ibrahim Musa K: Is it really news to discover that the strong and the powerful among us have been prone to abuse their privilege and trust? No, in fact such practice is too rampant to warrant any new revelation.
The trial of the millionaire cop could just be for public entertainment, possibly a gimmick before the imminent general election. With our lamentable and debilitated judicial system, greatly influenced by highly cogent politicians, the outcome of the superfluous trial needs no guessing. Coupled by the likelihood of the involvement of the paramount elite group, his conviction or not is already a matter of course (remember Eric Chia's case?).
Pak Lah had hardly kept his promises made before the last election. He seems to be conveniently swayed in his policy decision by a close family member, and guided in his action by a pally in his cabinet. How pathetic!
What is the point of another 'democratic' general election when Malaysians will be most probably forced to watch again and again the trivial yet sickening scenarios that had been played (if not manipulated) by our government over the past few years? Would the readers not think so?
On Umno full of 'non-Malay' leaders
Fik Abdullah:
In one of the paragraphs, the letter writer wrote, "If today, a Chinese or an Indian converts to Islam, they and their younger generation will have the identity of being a Malay and enjoy the same benefits."I wish to let her know that I'm a mid-age mixed Bidayuh (bumi) and Chinese (non-bumi) Muslim but my IC and birth certificate still shows me as a non-bumiputera. Same goes to all my Chinese (mostly from mixed background of Iban, Bidayuh and Melanau) and Indian Muslim-converted friends, who have their IC still identifying them as non-bumiputera.
In the last paragraph, she wrote, "If the Malay rulers' rights keep deteriorating, one day Malaysia will be a presidential nation and these ‘non-Malays’ will take control ultimately." Aren't we in the East - that is, Sarawak and Sabah - also considered as part of Malaysia? Or is she predicting that only West Malaysia will be a presidential nation? Then, which of these 'non-Malays' is she referring to who can “take control ultimately”?
On You can’t ‘convert’ to another race
Believer in Bolehland: I would like to inform the letter writer that he/she is totally wrong. In Bolehland, you can 'convert' to another race in just one generation. For example, a Chinese man who converts gets a name, for example, Ali bin Tan Abdullah. His son will be named, for example, Abu bin Ali and he will be a full-fledged Malay Muslim and bumiputera from then on. This is also the case for Indian Muslims. I am a teacher and I know this for a fact.
In schools, any child with a Muslim name is categorised as a Malay regardless if their father is a Chinese, Indian or any other race for that matter. In fact, form teachers in schools will get themselves into trouble when they state any child with a Muslim name with any other race than Malay. Only in Bolehland one can change one's race.
Perhimpunan Bersih: PAS buat penjelasan
