Rafizi's son stabbed with syringe in mall car park attack

Rafizi Ramli’s 12-year-old was attacked at the car park of a shopping mall in Putrajaya this afternoon.

When contacted, the Pandan MP confirmed the incident.

"Undergoing check and will be under observation,” the former economy minister told Malaysiakini in a brief text message.

Sepang district police chief Norhizam Bahaman, who was at the hospital where Rafizi’s son is being treated, confirmed the incident.

He told Malaysiakini that the attack occurred at around 1.30pm.

In a statement later, Rafizi said the attack was carried out by two individuals dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets.

His son was dragged out and stabbed with a syringe as Rafizi, his wife and the boy were entering their car.

“In my opinion, they had planned the attack,” he said, adding that he believes the attack was aimed at silencing him.

Since stepping down from his cabinet position, Rafizi has been outspoken on numerous matters, often criticising the administration’s handling of certain issues.

The police are expected to issue a statement on the incident soon.

Earlier, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, who described the attack as “unprecedented”, said he would request a briefing from Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on the incident.
