The Malaysian military has started investigations into the cause of an airshow accident that left three paratroopers dead, an official said Monday.
The victims, including two women, perished at sea after strong winds blew them off course during a training exercise on Sunday for an airshow on the resort island of Langkawi. Another 11 were injured.
They were among 138 paratroopers practising a mock seizure of Langkawi's airport planned for the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Airspace (LIMA) 2007 exhibition on Tuesday.
Zurina Abu Sarim, defence ministry spokesperson said it would take two weeks to complete the probe.
"The investigation has started. They will investigate why the accident happened. Normally the standard length is about two weeks," she told AFP.
An initial medical report on the victims had found that one of the women had drowned while the other two died of hypothermia.
The condition of two critically injured female paratroopers, who had broken ribs and punctured lungs, have stabilised, the official Bernama news agency reported Monday.
Three men were discharged from Langkawi hospital late Sunday after receiving treatment.
