TNB among top 10 firms with most speeding summonses - Loke

National utility giant Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has been listed among the top 10 companies with the highest number of outstanding speeding summons involving goods vehicles.

Citing data from the Road Transport Department (RTD), Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the ranking is part of the “name and shame” policy undertaken by the ministry, RTD, and the Land Public Transport Agency to reduce road fatalities involving heavy vehicles.

In a written parliamentary reply, Loke detailed that state-owned TNB ranks fourth on the list, with 57 active speeding summonses involving its goods vehicles as of Oct 8.

At the top of the list is SPT Power Transport Services with 114 active summonses, followed by Tiong Soon Trading & Transport Sdn Bhd (88) and Visions Transport Enterprise Sdn Bhd (65).

Other companies in the top 10 include E2S Logistics Sdn Bhd (56), Securiforce Sdn Bhd (53), Chan Soon Transport & Trading Sdn Bhd (47), GD Fit International (M) Sdn Bhd (46), Jimat Jaya Sdn Bhd (37), and SBS Teguh Impian (M) Sdn Bhd (37).

Loke added that the ministry’s enforcement efforts also extend to bus operators, with GJG Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd recording the highest number of active speeding summonses at 271, followed by Cepat Ekspres Sdn Bhd (198) and AC Interstate Coach (M) Sdn Bhd (185).

The minister noted that besides the “name and shame” policy, other measures undertaken by authorities include enforcing the use of speed limitation devices and conducting year-round special operations with specific focuses, such as the integrity of the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).

Other enforcement activities involve audits of high-risk transport companies, overloaded vehicles, and drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as well as suspending and revoking vehicle permits and operator licences for serious offences.

Loke said this in response to a query posed by DAP’s Rasah MP Cha Kee Chin, who had requested the minister to state the names of the 10 bus or lorry companies that have received the highest number of speeding summonses since June 25.
