N Sembilan polls: Loke to defend Chennah, 'poster boy' Aminuddin takes Linggi

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim unveiled 36 candidates from the coalition for the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, scheduled for Aug 1.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke will defend his Chennah state seat, while caretaker menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, whom Harapan election director Amirudin Shari dubbed as “poster boy” of the state polls, will contest the Linggi constituency.

Loke has held Chennah since 2013, when PAS and DAP were still allies, and first won the seat with 56 percent of the votes.

Malaysiakini had earlier reported that Aminuddin would move from his Sikamat seat to contest Linggi.

Nor Azman Mohamad, the former Negeri Sembilan PAS information chief who later joined PKR in 2021, will contest Sikamat.

Malaysiakini understands that Aminuddin first expressed his intention during internal state-level discussions before obtaining the green light from the PKR national leadership.

Several party sources confirmed the plan to Malaysiakini.

Of the 36 candidates, Loke, Aminuddin, and former Kapar MP G Manivannan are the only established figures, while most are new faces.

Manivannan will be contesting the Jeram Padang seat.

In the 2023 state election, Harapan won 17 seats and formed the state government in partnership with BN, which secured 14 seats, while the opposition bloc, Perikatan Nasional, won five.

The Election Commission has set July 18 as nomination day, while early voting will be held on July 28.
