Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP) losses from its nearly RM200 million investment in Indonesian aquaculture start-up eFishery stemmed from a “planned fraud”, with the company’s management allegedly manipulating its financial statements.
In a written parliamentary reply to Wong Chen (Harapan-Subang), Anwar said the investment had gone through KWAP’s established governance process, including internal assessments, independent due diligence and reviews of the company’s financial, legal, and operational standing before approval.
Following the fraud, KWAP and the investor consortium had initiated legal action and were continuing efforts to recover invested funds while strengthening internal governance.
