The PAS ulama wing wants the party to evolve from a “pak lebai” outfit to one that serves as a birthplace for statesmen.

Its chief, Ahmad Yahaya, said all parties need to realise that PAS must begin preparing a lineup of statesmen who will lead the country one day.

“This is part of the future vision and mission that PAS must begin thinking about today.

“A statesman does not merely talk about power; they talk about how to build a legacy.

“In facing today’s political situation, PAS is no longer just a ‘pak lebai’ party, but must make a paradigm shift to a party that produces statesmen who contribute to the nation,” he said when delivering his opening address in conjunction with the PAS wing’s muktamar in Kota Bharu today.

Ahmad, who is also the Pokok Sena MP, said “ulama rabbani” (godly scholars) must serve as guides in producing statesmen within the Islamic movement.

Therefore, he said, it is the ulama wing’s role to ensure the presence of ulama rabbani who generate strong statesmanlike leadership in PAS.

‘Ummah unity must continue’

Meanwhile, commenting on the Muslim unity agenda, Ahmad said that the recent Negeri Sembilan state election showed that it not only re-established a Malay-Muslim government there, but also weakened support for DAP and Pakatan Harapan.

“Although the cooperation in the Negeri Sembilan state election was a loose taawun siyasi (political cooperation) that did not bind any party, it at least had a significant impact on the voting patterns in the election.

“The narrative of ummah unity should not stop at the state election alone. It should continue to be raised to ensure Muslims unite once again, as well as strengthen the political power of Muslims in this beloved land of Malaysia,” he added.
