Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s wife Jeanne said that she was prepared physically and mentally to help her husband canvass for votes for the March 8 general election.

jeanne abdullah Jeanne would cast her vote in the Kepala Batas parliamentary constituency for the first time, where Abdullah is defending the seat which he has held since 1978.

Previously, she cast her vote in the Subang Jaya parliamentary seat since she was 21.

"I am ready to face any obstacle or challenge while campaigning with Abdullah. We are in high spirits, in close alliance and I am happy to see all races cooperating with one another," Jeanne, who married the prime minister last year, was quoted as saying by Bernama .

Jeanne was speaking to reporters while accompanying the prime minister to file his nomination papers for the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat at the Millenium Hall where the couple were joined by thousands of Barisan nasional (BN) supporters.

Earlier, she accompanied Abdullah to visit the graves of his parents at the compound of Jamek Al-Jamiul Badawi Mosque here before heading for the nomination centre.

In high spirits

On voting, she said that when she turned 21, her father had registered her as a voter at the Puchong ' penghulu ' (village head) office.

"I hope parents will register their children as voters as a birthday present. It is our responsibility," she said, while urging Malaysians to excercise their rights to vote in the general election.

Asked to comment on the people's support for Abdullah as prime minister, she said they were fortunate to have a leader who was calm, collected and fair to all races.
