We want more media freedom and the government should respect the right of Malaysians to peaceful assemblies - these are some of the messages that the younger generation would like to convey to the new government after the March 8 national polls.

According to constitutional expert Shad Saleem Faruqi, 206 nations allow voting by the age of 18, with a further eight by the age of 20.

However, despite not being able to vote, Malaysia's Generation Next do have strong opinions on what they want, if you care to ask.

Malaysiakini spoke to few students from a local college, all of whom are 20 and below.

Faith Rowena, a journalism student, believed that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would make good prime minister only if he could show stronger leadership.

Ashley Khoo, a media studies student, said she would like the prime minister spend more time at home than oversees.
