Even if MIC and the community’s ties were like a husband and wife, then the wife should divorce the husband and sue him for everything he is worth.
On MIC, Indians ties 'like husband and wife'
Anantha Paskaran: Well, lets take it one step further. MIC as the husband, fools around with other women (unfaithful and loyal to everyone except the spouse), spends away the family money on himself and his parasitic friends leaving the family in the poorhouse.
MIC's friends don't give a damn about the so called irresponsible husband's family either. What is the poor wife to do?? I think she should divorce him, sue him for everything he is worth, last but not least seek alimony and child support!
Individual Right: Samy Vellu has no right to analyse that the Indian Malaysians and MIC are like husband and wife. He has no right to analyse. The Indians, being Malaysian citizens, have the right to decide for themselves the right party or person whom they would like to represent them in the government. So please don't hoodwink the Indians as the election is just a few days away. MIC and Indians ties is more like cats and dogs.
Christopher Yogaswaran: ‘Similarly, the Indian community should not ask what the MIC has done for them because we have shown them what we have done," Samy told reporters after a meet-the-people session at Batu Kawan in Penang today.’
The right to question is a trait of a democratic system. Asking us not to question means that Samy Vellu is in breach of the democracy and leading the way to a dictatorship. Furthermore, we as Indian Malaysians - whom Samy Vellu and MIC claim to represent - have every right to question, since it was us that had elected the likes of such people in the first place.
Moreover to question is to maintain a state of check and balance. Why wouldn’t Samy Vellu and MIC want check and balance? Have they got something to hide? Thank you Samy Vellu for denying us our democratic right. Vote MIC if you want your democratic rights taken away from you.
Viv: Let us first and foremost understand ourselves who is 'husband' and 'wife' as quoted by Samy. I believe 'husband' refers to the Indian community and 'wife' the MIC. As he mentioned, the husband shouldn’t question what the wife has done for him.
So for argument sake, if the wife (MIC) doesn’t discharge her responsibilities properly, that means the husband (the community) has to keep quiet and just follow. Now I hope Indians understand the true colours of Samy and his leadership traits. He wants the community to just accept what is given and not complain over what is not given.
In other words this confirms that he has indeed cheated and deprived the community throughout his tenure as president of MIC. Vote for Change
On Rejected - Hindraf 5 to remain under ISA
Sitha: What was decided yesterday for the five Hindraf leaders was totally a misuse of power by our government. The whole world knows what is happening. I just don't understand what they have done that is so very wrong for them to be detained under the ISA. All they did was try to ask for human rights because they are human rights lawyers. But one thing I know for sure - they are there is because they fought for the people whom they love sincerely.
Not for money, not for fame. They united the Indians through a single event. If you think about it, they actually made the government’s job easy. But what did they get in return? ISA detention. For those responsible for the decision yesterday, I really hope you will undo it. And same for all of us too. Think of who you want to vote in. Remember, it happened to five of us now. We now have to stop it before it happens to another 500 in another five years.
On Semangat si nenek lawan BN, PAS
On GE 2008: Media should be independent
Justice & Fairness: The Malaysians are closely watching the on-going election campaign.
We practice democracy and we must learn the clean and healthy ways of the United States of America is allowing the campaigners from both Republican and Democrats to use the national electronic media and press. To us, this is an endorsement of democracy paving the way to a fair and free election. If the opposition parties are being deprived of the facilities being enjoyed by the ruling parties then the people may be angered to deliberately vote for the opposition. Let us be fair.
On Penang: Gerakan's slogan backfires
On BN manifesto: Security, peace, prosperity
SK11: BN claims that they have fulfilled all the promises they made in the last election. Is the PM sleepwalking and talking again? He sleepwalked and talked on Feb 12 when he said Parliament would not be dissolved on Feb 13.
Corruption is getting worse (where are the big fishes caught?), transparency is still wanting (how are projects awarded), the crime rate is much higher (nobody feels safe or will let their female relatives go out at night), inflation is much higher than his sleep talking figures of less than 3%, the judiciary independence issue (Lingam Tape), the dropping standards of public prosecution and crime-solving issues (Altantuya case), the falling foreign direct investment as well as the outflow of local investment funds etc.
The list of jobs not done by the BN goverment all these years goes on and on. So the question is will all you voters believe the PM again? For Malaysia’s sake, will someone please wake up the PM.. Stop sleepwalking and start walking the talk
Disappointed Malaysian: Malaysia is all about personal gain. No one thinks about the community or the country as a whole. People are selfish and greedy and they are never satisfied with what they have and what they are blessed with. We forgot about living in harmony and peace and soon we will be living like back in the days of being a colony or like those countries at war. We used to fight others when we had the same enemy and now that we have our independence, we fight with each other.
People are like that. When they have a common interest e.g. the same enemy, they will group together and befriend each another but when they get rid of that enemy, they will think of ways to get rid of their friends as well. So then they will live alone and have the whole world to themselves. I’m wondering when Malaysians will actually wake up from these stupid fantasies.
At the height of election campaigning, everyone is talking about who to vote for. Is the current government good for us? Should we vote for opposition instead? To be honest, there is no difference who you vote for. You may think that the current government is not doing their job well but can you guarantee that the oppositions can do better? Whoever wins, the end result will still be the same. All problems will still continue to happen if we are not united and are out only for just personal gain.
Ang Tan Loong: After reading the above report, the Pest Control Association of Malaysia (of which I am president) feels compelled to inform you that we, too, are having a legal suit against the Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya. We believe this is the right time for the voters to know that local councils need to be elected rather than just appointed by their masters.
Jeff Leong: Sad to say that while Singapore has been able to keep their various communities in total peace and harmony (which directly helped the republic focus on economical development) over the past 40 years after independence by promoting meritocracy-based policies, Malaysia has made the relationship among the three main races worse after 50 years of independence by practising it's so called New Economic Policy (which had only resulted in distrust, jealousy and intolerance among races). What a shame.
Yee: I agree with KJ John in his article. This is a vote against arrogance and a vote not for the next four years but for the next generation. We have never had such opportunity with a reasonably cohesive opposition front. Fifty years is enough.
On Of course EC would say 'take it to court'
Leonidas Maximus: I and a friend registered as voters at the Bayan Lepas post office in Penang on Nov 26 last year. This was well before the date given to qualify to be eligible to vote for the forthcoming general elections.
But both our names have not been captured in the list system as we have checked several times over the past two months. And we have tried calling and e-mailing various people in the Election Commission but there has been no response from them. No e-mails have been replied, no calls have been answered (the ringing keeps going on it is busy for hours at times).
Word has got around and there have been other cases also reported. People who registered almost immediately after Nov 25, 2007 have not been added to the list. I feared that this might just be some error in the system, so I tried again calling each of the contacts given by the SPR, but there was no answer at all. What is going on?
On Menang awal: BN - 9, PAS - 1
On Website wants you to write letters to Pak Lah
Jason Lai Kuan Han: Well, I was very eager that I can finally write some letters to our PM. I spoke my mind and in fact gave a few suggestions to him to restore my confidence in his leadership. Whaddaya know? I’m pretty sure I’m banned from accessing the website (IP blocked). Oh well, I guess I’ll never see my letter published on the website and Pak Lah won’t have a chance to hear his people with differing points of views. So much for big ears.
On All eyes on PKR’s young guns
Birdseye: I fully agree with the writer - no one catches the eye more than video maker Loh Gwo Burne. What a shot to stardom in so short a time! The burne-ing question is: what has he done to deserve this great opportunity to be a member of parliament?
Whilst I most definitely share the overwhelming desire of those who wish to deny the Barisan Nasional a two-thirds majority, it’s a mockery of the election process if anyone will do as a candidate.
Kelana Jayanese need to hear from Anwar Ibrahim/PKR why Loh will make a good member of Parliament because there seems to be a growing disenchantment in that constituency. He has no political or public service record to speak of and his claim to immediate fame thus far is that he had accompanied his rich father to lawyer VJ Lingam’s house and, fortuitously for Malaysians, was so bored to death he decided to shoot the now infamous ‘correct correct correct’ video.
But does he have winnable credentials, especially when faced with a highly formidable Lee Hwa Beng from the BN? Lee can boast a strong record having served the Subang Jaya state constituency for three terms. Could it be that PKR thinks Lee is just too much for any opposition candidate and they may just as well let Loh Gwo Burne contest, an ideal quid pro quo solution. This will not go down well for PKR, however, because people are not stupid and are sick of such cynical deals.
