Mundane matters are eating into the election schedule of S Manikavasagam, the PKR candidate for Kapar .

Just when he should be planning his final onslaught, he has been spending time at the Kapar and Klang police stations, lodging reports that allegedly are not being acted upon.

Yesterday, he lodged separate police reports complaining that PKR flags and banners in Simpang Tiga had been destroyed by certain persons in two cars. They were spotted by a PKR supporter at the Sungai Kapar operations room.

He said the police should deploy more patrol cars to the area to prevent problems, because PKR supporters are becoming angry with the ‘sabotage’.

Asked how his campaign is proceeding, he said he would focus on securing the Malay vote up to Friday. Under election law, campaigning must end at midnight before polling day.

Manikavasagam is taking on two-term incumbent, Wanita MIC head P Komala Devi, but is not unduly worried about his chances, based on sentiments on the ground.

He said that voter response has been positive, especially in plantations because of unresolved land issues and increased prices of goods.

He also claimed that the Chinese in Pulau Ketam have indicated they want a change of elected representative.
