'What Dr M believes irrelevant'

your say ‘Just because he or anyone else believes something, does that make it true? A matter must first be established as true before you can believe it.’

On Dr M: Judges found traces of homosexual acts

Chong: What Dr M believes about what Anwar did or did not do is irrelevant. Just because he or anyone else believes something, does that make it true? A matter must first be established as true before you can believe it.

The opposite is hearsay and rumours. A man is innocent until proven guilty. Whatever cannot be proven is between him and God.

The court ruling did say that in effect there was reasonable doubt and as fallible beings, we have no right to punish someone for something we cannot prove.

I suppose this is also now true of the allegations against our DPM. Let's stop punishing him in the media until Anwar or others comes up with proof instead of Statutory Declarations - which seems to have lost their flavour if you ask me.

M Kam: In 1997, Anwar questioned Mahathir about bailing out his (Mahathir’s) son’s company, MISC, to the tune of RM2 billion.

As a result, the charge of sodomy came in.If Mahathir really wanted to remove Anwar, he should have done it before his son’s problem came. He himself betrayed the country by robbing taxpayers’ money do bail out his own son.

It clearly indicates Mahathir himself is not a sincere person It is better for him to keep quiet.

On Syed Hamid: Anwar a US 'snitch'

Need a Wig: Probably the honourable home minister does not realise that the US is a global superpower which has a tremendous influence universally, in particular on the trade arrangements which Malaysia so humbly depends on.

Malaysia, unfortunately, with its half-baked leaders just does not possess the substance to face criticisms from any one. They prefer to keep all matters within closed doors as there will be a lot dirty linen to wash and they just do not have the capacity to handle this.

The honourable home minister (ex-foreign minister) messed-up on the Pulau Batu Putih case. Phew! What a mess they made and became a national laughing stock.

Very soon, we may lose Johor as probably Singapore may have a valid document from the old colonial days to claim it.

Syed Hamid blows his mouth off just like the rest of them. No wonder the country is in such a pathetic state.

On Kuala Kangsar election petition dismissed

Concerned: The court rejected the petition on the grounds that the incumbent made a ‘silly’ mistake. This is a clear case of playing with words.

A ‘silly’ mistake is still a mistake. Under the rules and regulations, the election should therefore be declared null and void.

Would your bank honour your cheque if you are ‘silly’ enough to sign it?

On Anti-Samy demonstration cancelled

Saminathan Nagappan: Samy, please go. What you are waiting for? You have lost in the election and you are still holding onto the MIC chief’s post.

Indians in Malaysia are not interested in you anymore. You are the main culprit for the MIC’s downfall. Former deputy chief of MIC Dato Subra is a more capable leader than you.

With his vast experience in politics, he must be given the chance to run the MIC. Please pack your bags and go, Samy.

On RM 428 mil for mosques, RM8 mil for temples, churches

A Non-Muslim Malaysian: I’m really sad to learn that not even 2% of the total expenditure for places of worship was used for non-Muslim places of worship by the federal government between 2005 and 2008.

This is so blatantly unfair towards non-Muslims. What were MCA, Gerakan, MCA, MIC and all those other non-Muslim parties in government doing?

Weren’t you supposed to bring up our concerns and protect our interests? It makes me extremely reluctant to pay any more taxes at all to the federal government.

Michael Lim: From the figure, is it fair to everyone in the country? BN consists of Umno, MCA and MIC but this is what the people get in return.

On Malays as a 'dominant majority'

Cheong Sai Fah: This piece by the writer makes a lot of sense. I particularly liked this comment: 'The man is also largely responsible for the deteriorating ethnic relations, economic competitiveness and the standards of tertiary education.'

To that I wish to add that he (Mahathir) is also responsible for the escalating inflation that his policies have built into Malaysia's economic system.

In particular, I like to mention all the one-sided toll concession agreements that have periodic toll increases built into the agreements. When toll rates rise, everything follows suit. Therein lies the inflation escalator.

Others include the national car project. In order to maintain the viability of this project, the general public has been saddled with the high cost of cars.

On Still racist statements from BN reps

Robert Lee: While I fully agree with the writer’s stand on Pasir Salak MP Tajudin Abdul Rahman, I would beg to differ about Malays being immigrants from other countries.

The Malays are descended from the indigenous Orang Asli (Aboriginal) Malays such as the Temuan (who used to be called Jakun), Semelai, Kanak, Kuala, Selat, Kalang, Bulang and Seletar among others from the Riau Archipelago.

The Riau Islands are not a foreign country but a geographical extension of the Malayan Peninsula. They were an integral part of the kingdom of Johor Darul Takzim from time immemorial.

The third component of the Orang Asli after the Melanesian Negrito and the Mon-Khmer Senoi is the Aboriginal Malay and this group gave rise to the Malay people of Malaysia and its neighbours Indonesia, Timor Leste and Singapore.
