The two Perak executive councillors arrested last week have been charged with allegedly accepting RM100,000 and RM5,000 respectively.

perak exco aca arrest 200808 mohd osman mohd jailu According to reports, Osman Mohd Jailu ( right ), who is state cabinet member for tourism, human capital and NGOs, was charged at the Ipoh Sessions Court for allegedly accepting a RM100,000 bribe in relation to the development of a housing project.

He allegedly committed the offence at the Kluang station café in Ipoh on Aug 16. Also charged with the offence was Usaili Alias, former PKR state assemblyman for Bota.

Both pleaded not guilty and have been released on bail.

perak exco aca arrest 200808 jamaluddin mohd radzi Meanwhile, Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi ( photo, far right ) - the exco for entrepreneur development, agriculture and commerce - was charged together with Usaili for allegedly accepting a RM5,000 bribe in relation to the same housing project.

The duo, who claimed trial, were freed on RM8,000 bail.

Both councillors arrived in court at 10am and were greeted by some 100 party supporters.

According to the Anti-Corruption Agency, the bribery was to help expedite the approval of a RM180 million housing project in Seri Iskandar, about 30-minute drive south of Ipoh.

Another person who appeared in the Sessions Court this morning was Ruslan Sahat, a technician with the Perak Development Corporation, who was slapped with seven charges of corruption involving cash and sex.

Meanwhile, a fifth individual - Perak Tengah district councillor Zul Hassan - was also charged over the matter.

However, ACA said on Saturday that one of the six persons arrested last Wednesday in a sting operation conducted by the agency will not be charged.

Reports said judge Tan Hooi Leng will decide on Sept 15 whether her court has jurisdiction to hear five of the charges which allegedly took place in Penang.

RM100 mil law suit filed

In a related development, Jamaluddin and Osman today filed a defamation suit against the ACA, ACA director-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan, Perak ACA director Samsiah Abu Bakar and The Star newspaper.

They are demanding RM100 million in general damages from the ACA, Ahmad Said and Samsiah - who are the first, second and third defendants respectively - for wrongful arrest, wrongful detention, prosecuting with an ulterior motive, misfeasance and libel apart from aggravated damages, exemplary damages, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.

In the writ of summons, Jamaluddin also alleged the first three defendants had wrongfully arrested and detained him when he was asked to make a statement at the ACA office in Perak.

Jamaluddin and Osman also claimed the defendants had maliciously issued media statements relating to the corruption and sexual bribery charges to injure and “politically destroy” them and the image of PKR, and to influence the Permatang Pauh by-election.

They are also demanding damages from The Star, which they claim had wrongfully and maliciously published the Aug 21 report, ‘Sex and Bribes: Two Perak Exco Members Nabbed’.
