The last day of campaigning saw a tussle at the Seberang Jaya food court between BN and PKR election workers, naughty SMS-es, happy Indians in Permatang Pauh and last-minute ceramahs.

PKR media today reported that imam Ramlang Porigi said that he was sure the deputy prime minister's aide had helped Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

In a video interview this morning, the FT Mosque imam said: "I want to state that I know who arranged for Saiful to swear at the mosque.

"I'm quite sure I know who it is as I've seen the picture he took with Saiful at Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's office.

"I think he is Najib's special officer," said Ramlang.

Commenting on the matter at the Yayasan Aman office today, PKR chief Anwar Ibrahim said that Ramlang's statement is further proof of Najib's involvement in the Saiful allegation.

"This confirms our earlier belief that this was orchestrated by Umno all along, timed perfectly for this election," said Anwar.

Tussle at food court

At Seberang Jaya, a tussle broke out between PKR and BN workers at a food court this morning.

It happened while BN election workers were distributing election VCDs.

Several FRU trucks were dispatched to the area immediately. No one was arrested or hurt in the incident.

PKR information chief Tian Chua confirmed the clash during a press conference and said that they have reminded their workers not to react to provocation.

Naughty SMS-es

Meanwhile, BN candidate Arif Shah Omar Shah has lodged a police report on a false SMS (short messaging system) circulating in Permatang Pauh.

The message told chiefs of the BN operations centres and other members to go to Arif Shah's house to collect payment for their services.

The Seberang Jaya assemblyman lodged the report at IPD Seberang Perai Tengah last night.

Permatang Pauh By-Election public relations officer Supt Shaharon Anuar Abdul Latif confirmed receiving the Arif Shah's report.

No public parades for winners

Police will not handing out any permits for street rallies or victory parades after elections tomorrow.

According to Deputy Home Minister Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh the precaution is to ensure that no untoward incidents will take place.

"Both BN and PKR have won elections before so there is no necessity for any victory parades," said Wan Ahmad.

Party supporters from elsewhere are also discouraged from coming to Permatang Pauh in big numbers.

"There are already 50,000 voters here. There is no need to have more people here to disrupt the voting process," he added.

Happy Indians in Permatang Pauh

Indians in Permatang Pauh are changing, said MIC chief S Samy Vellu.

"After three days of campaigning, we can see a big smile. This is a sign that the BN government are no long shunned," said Samy Vellu after a function at the Sree Mariamn hall last night.

Samy Vellu said the Indians in Permatang Pauh had waited 25 years for change especially that concerning the future of the young generation.

Last-minute ceramahs

Despite nine days of campaigning, both BN and PKR are still aiming for a final push.

PKR chief Anwar Ibrahim is expected to speak at two more ceramah perdanas. The first is at 8.30pm at Taman Ciku near Bukit Mertajam while his second one is at 9.30pm at Jalan Besar.

BN crowd-pullers Khairy Jamaluddin and Ezam Mohd Nor are expected to speak again at the Umno Youth Operations Centre at Kubang Semang at 9.30pm.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is also expected to make a final appearance in Permatang Pauh before polling tomorrow.

DAP supporters as Mat Rempits?
