Pakatan Youth leaders today urged Universiti Industri Selangor (Unisel) chancellor Rosmah Mansor to resign from her post for being 'academically and morally unfit' to be a role model for the students.

Rosmah is the wife of Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

memo against rosmah unisel chancellor pakatan rakyat 051108 03 In a memorandum to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, Khairul Anuar Ahmad Zainudin (PKR Youth), Lau Weng San (DAP Youth) and Mohd Sany Hamzan (PAS Youth) also urged the state government to replace Rosmah with someone who has ‘more integrity’ and is ‘morally-fit’.

"Chancellor is a vital symbol for a university as it carries a high-value of integrity but we feel Rosmah is not qualified especially with the controversies surrounding her," said Khairul.

Lau, on the other hand, noted that Rosmah lacked the necessary academic credentials.

rosmah mansor According to the Unisel website, Rosmah obtained a bachelors degree in Anthropology and Sociology in Universiti Malaya. She then enrolled in a post-graduate programme at Louisiana State University, USA and graduated with a Master of Science majoring in Sociology and Agriculture Extension.

Lau, who is also the assemblyperson for Kampung Tunku, however argued that these qualifications were not sufficient.

"Her academic qualifications are not enough for the chancellor post, be it for a university, college-university or even polytechnic.

"Compared to chancellors in other universities, this post is usually held by high-profile people that over-step political boundaries," he explained.

'Quit before being fired'

memo against rosmah unisel chancellor pakatan rakyat 051108 01 Meanwhile, Mohd Sany reiterated that the controversies surrounding Rosmah rendered her not suitable for the post.

"We are urging her to resign immediately because she does not deserve the post as it is related to her morality and integrity... and she has to resign without having to be fired by the state government," he said.

In the memorandum received by the menteri besar's political secretary Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in Shah Alam, the three youth leaders also called on the state government to thoroughly discuss who should replace Rosmah.

"We do not want to be accused of being biased by suggesting people from the opposition parties (be appointed). However, if the person is a politician who is qualified for the post, we will have no problems with it," he said.

The trio also noted that Rosmah's appointment had taken place in 2006 under the administration of former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo.

"The decision was made as the former menteri besar just wanted to 'bodek' (please) the current deputy prime minister," said Khairul.

Asked if the memorandum received any endorsement from the university, he claimed that based on their random survey, many Unisel students were also unhappy about Rosmah being the chancellor.
