No irregularities have been detected so far in the electoral roll used in the Kuala Terengganu by-election, said Terengganu PAS chief Mustafa Ali today.

kuala terengganu by election 080109 pas daily pc mustafa ali "The electoral roll is (gazetted). We have to accept it… Up until now, there is no (complaint of irregularities)," he told a press conference at the state PAS headquarters in Batu Burok.

He added that the electoral roll was scrutinised using a special computer software but refused to elaborate on the findings.

In the past, opposition parties have frequently complained about the integrity of the electoral roll which allegedly included dead voters, 'phantom' voters and large amount of voters registered to a single address.

According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 80,229 voters are eligible to cast their votes for the Jan 17 by-election.

Mustafa also praised the EC for the smooth handling of Tuesday's nomination process and hopes the rest of the election process will proceed in the same manner.

"We are not fully confident that the election process will be fully clean. I am saying this because I hope the EC will do its best to ensure a clean election," he said.

Met by ACA officials

Meanwhile, Mustafa also revealed that Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) officials had met him this morning over his allegation of vote buying attempts.

"I'm compiling the information. I don't want to divulge the information in a disorganised manner. I will disclose it at the right time," he said when asked if he had lodged a report with the ACA.

kuala terengganu by election 080109 pas daily pc The PAS leader said he had briefed the ACA officials of the modus operandi used by the alleged vote buyers and it was up to the ACA to decide on whether such information can be made public.

"It looks that they are serious in looking into my allegation. I have faith in them. We’ll see what happens," he added.

Yesterday, Mustafa alleged that certain quarters are 'renting' identity cards for RM500 with the intention of impersonating voters.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said has denied such claims while state police chief Mohd Shukri Dahlan advised Mustafa to lodge a report.
