Sarongs, towels, and kickbacks
Former armed forces chief Nizam Jaffar claimed trial to four charges, including abuse of power and criminal breach of trust (CBT) over RM3.75 million.
This includes allegedly abusing his authority to pocket over RM550,000 from awarding contracts to procure sarongs, bath towels and other items meant for Hari Raya gift packages.
Meanwhile, his would-be-successor, former army chief Hafizuddeain Jantan, was slapped with two additional money laundering charges.

URA to be redeveloped
The cabinet has decided to put a pause on legislating the Urban Renewal Act.
Several amendments will be made, taking into account feedback from lawmakers, especially from Umno.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said 14 proposals put forth by the party are being considered, aimed at safeguarding residents’ rights and tightening oversight of redevelopment projects.

Najib ‘misquoted’
Lawyer Shafee Abdullah refuted reports that Najib Abdul Razak had finally conceded that RM42 million deposited into his bank account was not an Arab donation.
Shafee said that Najib continues to maintain this belief and was only commenting on what the courts had come to believe.
Last Thursday, during the SRC civil suit against Najib, the plaintiff’s lawyer was reported as asking the former prime minister whether, in his mind now, the RM42 million had nothing to do with a Saudi donation.
Najib is then reported as replying: “Based on subsequent knowledge, yes.”
