Kuala Lumpur – Lalamove, the leading on-demand delivery platform, announced findings of its global survey revealing that over 75% of driver partners transitioned into tech-based logistics from traditional sectors, showcasing the platform’s role in unlocking new career opportunities. Findings reveal how Lalamove’s flexible model enables driver partners to achieve a greater work-life balance, pursue personal goals and provide for their loved ones in new and meaningful ways.

The survey garnered nearly 9,000 responses from different markets globally, highlighting the company’s commitment to actively engaging with its driver partner community and their experiences within the platform. As flexible, app-based earning opportunities become a defining trend across global markets, this study serves as a tool for understanding the backgrounds and preferences of Lalamove’s driver partners.

Platform economy reshapes careers
The platform economy has emerged as a dominant trend across markets, reshaping traditional employment models and offering individuals unprecedented flexibility and diverse income streams. Notably, these individuals transitioned from diverse professional backgrounds, including office roles (16%) and self-employed individuals (10%). In Malaysia, 55% of local respondents working with Lalamove previously held roles in the traditional logistics industry. This reflects a notable shift toward platform-based work that allows them to remain in their area of expertise while enjoying greater flexibility, without compromising the skills they've developed over time.

Redefining work accessibility for flexible earning
Lalamove’s partnership with drivers addresses a growing global shift toward adaptable work, combining accessible opportunities with unparalleled scheduling freedom. Recent data underscores this appeal: 65% of driver partners cite flexibility as their primary motivator, while 47% leverage the platform’s open scheduling to balance income generation with personal and family commitments. By removing rigid hourly requirements and empowering drivers to design their workdays around personal demands, Lalamove fills delivery gaps while reimagining the modern workforce.

Lalamove fuels financial resilience for families
Recent survey data found that 63% of driver partners use Lalamove to supplement their main income, a reflection of how this additional source of income helps people achieve financial stability while also enhancing their standards of living. This opportunity extends beyond individual benefits; with 63% of drivers being married and two-thirds of them with children. The flexibility of Lalamove’s platform allows driver partners to more easily run errands, manage school drop-offs, and handle family upkeep alongside their work commitments. These motivations underscore how Lalamove empowers driver partners to enhance their personal and their families’ lives.

Mohd Izwan, 34, is one of Lalamove’s dedicated driver partners who previously worked in the traditional transportation industry. He once drove a lorry in Kelantan, often spending weeks away from his family. Determined to build a better life, Izwan made the move to Kuala Lumpur and began his journey with Lalamove.

Although he’s in a long-distance relationship with his family, the flexibility of being a Lalamove driver allows him to work a few days a week in the city before returning to Kelantan to spend quality time with his wife and two young children. His earnings have enabled him to support his family, purchase new pickup trucks and work toward his dream of owning a home in Kuala Lumpur so they can live together.

“I’ve achieved my goal of owning my own pickup truck with Lalamove. My next goal is to raise my kids with a good education and finally have a house where we can all be together,” he shared.

To further celebrate their driver partners, Lalamove announced their upcoming "Heroes Behind the Wheel" campaign. This initiative compiles inspiring success stories from driver partners across all markets, highlighting how Lalamove positively impacts their communities. Through authentic sharing of experiences, they aim to showcase the invaluable contributions of their driver partners and express their deep appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Paul Loo, Chief Operating Officer of Lalamove, shared, “At the heart of every Lalamove delivery are our driver partners fulfilling orders, powering the growth of SMEs and shaping communities. Their dedication does more than moving goods; it moves lives forward, enabling families to thrive and personal ambitions to take flight. As Lalamove continues to expand its service offerings, we remain focused on enhancing the experience for our driver partners. We are dedicated to providing them with the platform and support they need to succeed, empowering them to realize both their personal and professional aspirations.”

Jane Teh, Managing Director of Lalamove Malaysia, shared, “At Lalamove, every delivery represents more than just moving goods and packages. It embodies our commitment to creating economic opportunities and supporting individuals in building better futures for themselves. As we empower our driver partners with flexible earning opportunities, we simultaneously support SMEs and local businesses by providing them with reliable, on-demand delivery solutions that help them grow and reach more customers. With our platform, driver-partners enjoy faster access to earnings through twice-weekly cash outs. This significantly improves their cash flow and supports greater financial stability.”
