KINILENS
The passion of the opera

KINILENS | Xiekang Guat opera troupe is one of the remaining local opera performers in Malaysia.

They are now performing for the week of the Nine Emperor Gods Festival at Kau Ong Yah temple in Ampang, Selangor.

Backstage, the performers consist of 13 passionate elderly members. They can be considered as polymaths as they can multitask from makeup, singing, dancing and acting as well as managing the stage and props.

This traditional art industry is struggling because no young talent is interested in joining it anymore. It is likely to decay within 10 years if there is no legacy successor.
