I refer to the Malaysiakini article Press Club Propaganda Awards .

I do not wish to question the political merits of this piece. The views Johns expresses are his right.

However, I would like to put it on record that the Bernama team that won the Rookie of the Year Award at the Press Club event was a team of young journalists who had accompanied members of the Perdana Global Peace Organisation on a peace mission to Gaza.

I would suggest that Johns takes some time to read and analyse their press reports from Egypt where they were in the midst of riots as well as their brave reports from Gaza despite the constant Israeli army bombings that was taking place around them.

There is nothing dishonourable about their efforts and for Johns to infer that the all the winners that night were on a ‘dishonour roll' is unfair and, frankly lacks tact.

A little bit of research by Johns would have been welcomed before he went on his long rant on politics and the press. I believe there are good and bad journalists in Malaysia, as there are good and bad journalists anywhere else in the world.

Can I suggest that Johns' next piece be on the unethical journalism that took place in Australia just before the illegal invasion of Iraq?
