I refer to GS's letter Malaysians suffered under the Japanese . I feel that the writer is missing a few points here.
Let me reiterate my point made in my previous letter . Killing of innocent citizens is wrong, regardless of nationalities, especially when done under the promise of an Utopia. Japan, at least, declared a war, and it can be expected that people will definitely suffer during war.
The only reason those five countries are the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council is because they were on the winning side of World War II. Not because they are peace-loving nations or that they did not cause great sufferings like the Japanese did.
If we were to argue that Japan should not be on the Security Council based on their past wartime actions, then why is no one demanding that the same standard be applied to China, the US, Britain or even Germany?
And what is this about Japan never having apologised? When we allow those who do not declare war to get away without apologising, how could we be so selective and demand that the Japanese do so?
Try getting the British to apologise for colonising a large part of Asia (and causing great suffering) or the United States for their (mis)adventures in the Middle East.
