Kajang municipal councillor Tan Boon Wah last night spent about four hours at the Selangor police headquarters to give his statement to police to assist investigations into the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock last week.

Tan arrived at 9pm with his wife and lawyer and left at about 1.30am.

Later that day Teoh was found dead at a corridor of the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam after being questioned by the MACC.

Following the discovery of Teoh's body, Tan had lodged a police report on Saturday alleging that underhanded tactics were used by the MACC to interrogate him. He was questioned by the MACC on the same day as Teoh.

Tan was present at the police station yesterday after being served a notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The police have claimed that Tan had refused to cooperate to give a detailed statement.

Not avoiding, just been busy

However when contacted today, Tan denied avoiding going to the police station to give his statement.

He said that he had been busy after lodging the police report on Saturday and had no time to be present at the police station.

"After lodging the report, I had to go to Segamat and only returned on Sunday. Even then I straight went to Teoh's house in Malacca for the funeral," he said.

He added that he was then asked to be present at the Shah Alam police station yesterday morning but he was unable to go as he had to be at Teoh's funeral. Teoh was buried yesterday.

"I told them that I will be going in later in the day and that's what I did...I went to give statement at 9pm," he said.

He said he was questioned on his last encounter with Teoh as well as on his complaints against the MACC's interrogation techniques.
