The police have been urged to take action against the individual who threatened to rape Batu Tiga state representative Rodziah Ismail, during the chaotic dialogue between the Selangor government and Section 23 Shah Alam residents last Saturday.

In a statement today, the Federal Territories PKR women’s wing chief Felicia Ling said the police must arrest the person in order to ensure Rodziah’s safety.

“The delay by the police to act against the ‘cow-head’ demonstrators caused the instigators to step up their criminal acts during the dialogue session ,” she said.

NONE “Until today, no action has been taken (against) those who threatened Rodziah. Although there are video recordings to prove it, no action has been taken so far.”

During the dialogue, an irate Section 23 resident threatened to rape Rodziah because of the Selangor government’s proposal to relocate a temple to a site in his neighbourhood.

This was recorded by Shah Alam city council member A Sivarajan in an article which is being widely distributed on the Internet.

Rodziah, whose state constituency include Section 23, and Shah Alam parliamentarian Khalid Samad, have both been targets of criticism by residents over the temple relocation issue.

The wall across Rodxiah's service centre in the area was recently spray-painted with the words "Khalid, Rodziah, traitors to the race'.

MCMC also taken to task

Ling also criticised the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for directing Malaysiakini to remove two video clips relating to the ‘cow-head’ demonstration.

NONE “The MCMC investigations against Malaysiakin i contradict the attorney-general’s decision to charge the protestors because the video clips are important evidence,” she said.

The Section 23 saga was prompted by protests against the state government’s decision to relocate a Hindu temple to the area, which is mainly populated by Malays.

Some 50 residents held a controversial protest in front of the state secretariat building with a severed cow head, which was later stepped on. There was also a warning that blood could be shed if the relocation of the temple is carried out.

The police merely kept watch over the protestors. The incident has caused a widespread public outcry, prompting the AG to announce that the protestors would be charged for sedition and/or illegal assembly.
