The MCA unity plan needs to be transparent and understood by all its central committee (CC) and party members for it to be implemented, says deputy president Liow Tiong Lai.

NONE "As I had said previously, if we want the unity plan to have good results, we need to get the support of all quarters, including the delegates, and CC and party members.

"If we cannot understand the unity plan well, how will we be able to see it as effective?" he said to reporters today.

Liow, who is also Health Minister, said the discussions on the unity plan last week were between party president Ong Tee Keat and former deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek, and he was not involved.

"I was only told about the plan, but I was not present at all the discussions," he added.

NONE On Oct 22, Ong and Chua agreed to work together as a team to unite MCA and resolve the crisis in the party under a "greater unity plan".

However, on Tuesday several CC members led by Liow, said they had not been consulted about the plan which was announced last week. They urged Ong to convene a CC meeting to discuss the plan.

Ong rebutted by stating that it was not important to discuss the unity plan with the CC as it was done for the benefit of the party and not for any individual benefits.
