Grudge is the moving force motivating independent VS Chandran's campaign. He is holding Samy Vellu responsible for getting rid of him as MIC Hulu Selangor deputy division chief.

Chandran, 56, is confident of garnering over 15 percent of the 12,453 Indian votes.

Referring to the group as "silent" voters, who are against the party leader, he said:

" NONE I was the deputy chief here for six years... I have done a good job and I helped a lot of people in Hulu Selangor".

Without elaborating, Chandran said that he was "ousted" for disagreeing with the top leadership.

He chided Samy Vellu for thinking that voters of Hulu Selangor were "stupid".

"The candidate they have announced is not local, that's one thing. Secondly he was not elected by the members for his party post, he was appointed by Samy Vellu," said Chandran ( left ), claiming that Kamalanathan will prove to be an incapable opponent for the Pakatan.

Hot air propelled vision

"I'm angry that a local person was not fielded... but if he wins it would all be just empty promises.

"He doesn't live here... when there is a problem - flood, storms or drought - he will not come," he said.

On his aspiration for Hulu Selangor, Chandran said that he has a vision.

"If I become a member of parliament I know how to handle the problems of the rakyat. I can bring social and economic change," said Chandran, who hails from Batang Kali.

Meanwhile, according to Samy Vellu Chandran was suspended from MIC last year, however, now he faces the sack for breaching party rules.

"Chandran was only suspended for a year and is still a party member. We will deliberate on this issue at the next central working committee meeting," he said.

"This is a serious offence... Chandran has acted in a detrimental manner (by standing for election as an independent)," said Samy.

Johan faces the sack, too

Meanwhile, another independent Johan Mohd Diah, said to be Shah Alam Umno Youth committee member, is nonchalant at the prospect of the party sacking him.

Johan, a Felda Sungai Tengi resident located in the Hulu Bernam constituency, met outside the nomination centre said:

According to practice, anyone going against party's chosen and approved candidate will be sacked.

"I'm an aware of the constitutional provision, so as of today I'm no longer a member," he said.

NONE Johan, 31, ( left ) told reporters that his main aim was to fight for the interest of Felda settlers.

He added there was no tiff or frustration with Umno, a party he has been a member of for the past 10 years.

"Why should I feel frustrated, I'm doing this for the Malays.

"I will talk more on my campaign message when I meet the voters," he said.

Another independent hopeful, J Anuradha, was dejected and furious as she was barred from filing her nomination papers.

She showed up very angry and she was shouting, claiming that she was sabotaged by police and the BN.

"I was stopped by police outside nomination centre although I was there by 9am and kept away for one hour," said the private school teacher.

She claimed that police ‘lied' to her by informing her that the opening time for filing the papers was 10am.

"They made us stupid!" said the local born, vowing to campaign for the PKR .

The Hulu Selangor by-election will see a four-cornered battle among Chandran, Johan, BN's P Kamalanathan and PKR's Zaid Ibrahim.
