Three groups lodged a police report today against Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin alleging that the member of parliament for Bukit Gantang had made a seditious speech while campaigning during the Hulu Selangor by-election.

The report was filed at the Shah Alam police headquarters at 1.15pm by the Hulu Selangor Youth Council (HSYC), the Sungai Pelek branch of the Malaysian Indian Youth Council (MIYC) and Kampung Baru Seri Dengkil village development and security committee (JKKK).

HSYC was represented by its chairperson Zulkarnain Abu Hanit, MIYC by its Sungai Pelek branch chairperson M Ramesh and the JKKK by its chairperson Chan Meng Foh.

They alleged that Nizar, who is also a former menteri besar of Perak, had made the speech before the Chinese community of Kg Baru Kalumpang on April 17 and that a video clip of it was widely spread on the Internet.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Zulkairnain claimed that the speech could lead to racial discord in the country.

In the by-election held on Sunday, the Barisan Nasional's P Kamalanathan defeated PKR's Zaid Ibrahim by a majority of 1725 votes.
