A witness who claimed to be at the scene shortly after 14-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah was shot by the police has filed a report at the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters last night.

The witness, Zafrullah Ahmad Zainal Abidin, 27, who is the victim's neighbour, was accompanied by Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, counsel Fadiah Nadwa Fikri and four other lawyers from Lawyers for Liberty.

According to the police report, Zafrullah Ahmad claimed that he heard the sound of "exploding firecrackers" that grew louder, followed by the sound of police sirens and a sudden crash.

“…I rushed out of the house and saw someone running in the opposite direction (from the car crash site) and the police were shouting for the person to stop. I saw two or three policemen in uniform with one holding a gun,” read the report.

“Then, I saw one of the police cars making a U-turn to pursue the person that was (fleeing) the scene. After that, five or six more police cars arrived and cordoned off the scene,” continued his account.

Zafrullah also claimed that he had approached the scene and saw a body in the driver’s seat supposedly belonging to Aminulrasyid, facing down with the lower half of the body lying outside of the opened car door.

More witnesses needed

The report follows an earlier statement given by the main witness on the same day of the shooting. The witness was alleged to have been riding with Aminulrasyid when police open fired on them.

He is likely to be the person reported by Zafrullah to be seen running from the police.

NONE To assist the investigation further, Khalid Samad ( left ) is urging more witnesses to "come forward and explain what happened".

"Don’t assume that your information, no matter how minor, is irrelevant.”

Shortly after the incident on April 26, Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar was quoted as saying that the police had pursued the Proton Iswara because of  “suspicious circumstances,” and that shots were fired only because the victim had allegedly tried to ram police officers.
