PKR vice-president Azmin Ali denied knowledge of an apparent coup against Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim, saying that he is not involved and knows nothing about it, though he did not refute the possible existence of such a conspiracy.

"I don't know of any move by MPs to start a petition on this matter. I am not denying it, I don't know. How could I agree or disagree when I have no access to information," he replied.

pkr national congress 301108 azmin ali Quizzed further about the matter, Azmin ( right ) suggested any questions about the matter should be directed to English daily The Star which broke the news, asking them to name the parliamentarians allegedly involved and to clarify the matter.

The daily's online edition had reported earlier today that 15 PKR parliamentarians have ganged up and are pushing for the removal of Khalid from the state's top post.

"I am not part of this so I wouldn't know, I was not at the meeting, when was the meeting honestly? Let me check with my colleagues," he added when pressed for further details.

However, he said that he is aware that there is discontent in the party, but believed that such concerns were being addressed through proper channels.

khalid ibrahim Khalid ( left ) had faced much ire from party delegates at the recent PKR congress in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, for allegedly not consulting with party leaders over state policies and appointments of state posts.

"I am not surprised if there are concerns raised by the MPs. But the MB was positive (to the criticism), he was trying to accommodate the suggestions. But perhaps they expect more from him," he opined.

Since Azmin has long been rumoured to be at the heart or a movement to oust Khalid from his MB post, all eyes automatically turned to the Gombak parliamentarian when news of the alleged coup by PKR elected representatives broke.

Not totally unfounded

However, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh told reporters that the rumors are not totally unfounded and that this is a strong signal to Khalid.

"If there are any such rumours, I believe that it's a very strong signal to MB Khalid to listen more to party grassroots leaders. I think that is the message behind all these rumours. I would not say that it is totally unfounded," she explained.

"I am as lost as you are," she claimed.

She added that this is just a signal of dissatisfaction and not so serious to the point of removal.

The PKR election director reasoned that Khalid should pay more attention to party grassroots and be more "politically savvy".

"He himself acknowledged that he is politically naive and he need to consult more in terms of making political decisions that may affect the the performance of the party. So I think these are the areas of concern and these are the grouses from party leaders," she said, adding that this issue will be discussed and resolved during the weekend retreat.

"This is a statement of discontent, that needs to be looked into. It will be discussed openly and extensively during our weekend retreat. We are a democratic party and I believe that we will be able to resolve this," she added.
