PKR claims Anwar's car attacked with rocks, poles

PKR today claimed that a group of people attacked the car transporting Anwar Ibrahim en route to a ceramah in Felda Jengka 22, Kerdau last night.

Pahang PKR deputy chief Ahmad Nizam Hamid said some 30 people, allegedly Umno and BN supporters, surrounded the PKR de facto chief’s car at around 11pm at a junction as it was turning towards the Felda settlement.

“The group was carrying BN flags and wore shirts and vests that had the BN logo. They surrounded the car and started throwing rocks and hitting the car with their flag poles,” he said.

Ahmad Nizam ( left ), who said he was in the car with Anwar at the time, said the group also shouted obscenities at them while hoisting up placards that among others read, ‘ Tidak mahu peliwat ’ (we don’t want a sodomite).

“These Umno/BN supporters also spread out nails along the Jengka 22 road, especially around Anwar’s ceramah site last night.

“We were told that over 50 motorcycles and quite a few cars suffered punctured tyres because of the nails,” he added.

Ahmad Nizam said the group continued to terrorise the entrance leading to the ceramah site, but eventually left after police intervention.

“We are grateful to the police, who after discussing with us took the immediate step of dispersing the Umno/BN supporters who were waiting for Anwar to leave Jengka 22,” he said at PAS’ daily press conference at their operations centre.

Ahmad Nizam said the deplorable behaviour of the alleged Umno/BN supporters only goes to show how far BN is willing to go to maintain Kerdau’s electoral status quo.

‘Don’t push us too far’

“Security personnel and the Election Commission must be truly efficient and professional in making sure such an incident does not happen again and to avoid any untoward incidents.

“Our leaders constantly remind our members and supporters not to be provoked by such acts, but we warn Umno and BN to stop this behaviour... our patience has its limits,” he said without elaborating.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, when asked about the Anwar’s car getting blocked from entering Felda Jengka 22, appeared to brush aside attempts to implicate Umno and BN as the culprits, implying that they had nothing to do with the incident.

“It is up to the people in Felda. If the people in Felda do not want to accept Anwar, that is their right,” he said briefly on the issue.

Nizam, meanwhile, showed journalists several banners they took down from various spots around the constituency, which insinuate that Anwar had contributed the ‘male Y’ semen found on a lower rectal swab taken from alleged sodomy victim Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The banners, taken down from various locations in and around Kerdau, read “ LELAKI Y sekarang berada di Kerdau. Jaga keselamatan diri, isteri dan anak LELAKI anda!!! ” (The Y man is now in Kerdau. Watch out for your safety, and that of your wife and sons!!!).

“These banners obviously go against the election rules, but I don’t think we will lodge a police report because we probably won’t see any action from the authorities,” he said.

Meanwhile, PKR youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin lodged two reports at the Merlimau police station against alleged thuggery and yet another batch of ‘racist’ leaflets bearing the Perkasa Malacca logo.

Shamsul’s second report was on alleged ‘attacks’ against a vehicle that transported Anwar in Permatang Serai on March 2. He said blunt objects were thrown at the car and two other cars escorting Anwar.
