Sodomy complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had told Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) doctors that his anus had been penetrated, in his accusation against Anwar Ibrahim.

The matter was first declared to Dr Razuin Rahimi, the fourth HKL doctor who testified today in the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Razuin, the 23rd prosecution witness, said: "According to Saiful, there was penetration of his anus, and there was lubricant used. Saiful said (the perpetrator had) also fondled his breast.

"He ejaculated inside. Penetration, I recorded as 'full' as I got it from Saiful."

NONE Razuin was at home about 3.30pm on June 28, 2008, when she received a telephone call about a patient alleging he was sodomised by a high-profile politician.

She then directed the hospital staff to tell the complainant to lodge a police report first.

She informed her superior Dr Siew Sheue Feng, who told her to get to the hospital. She then went to the HKL one-stop crisis centre, met Saiful ( left ) and took down his medical history.

Razuin said Saiful told her that he was asked to perform oral sex, but had refused to do so.

The interview with Saiful lasted 20 minutes and ended at 9pm when the other doctors, Dr Razali Ibrahim and Dr Khairul Nizam Hassan, arrived.

NONE Then, she said, Saiful related his complaint again.

"There was no difference in what Saiful told the other doctors when they questioned him. I was present during the examination, assisting Dr Siew in writing down the history and medical findings."

Razuin ( right ) said she filled pages three, five and six of the pro-forma form.

"However, I did not fill in all the details in the form as Dr Siew said the form was not suitable. I filled these on blank pieces of paper."

Razuin said Saiful told her he was unwilling to be sodomised and that his body was tense during the almost half-hour alleged sexual act. Saiful also informed her that he refused the person’s request for oral sex as well.

When shown the pro-forma form, she explained that she wrote 'rectal attempted' because she was uncertain whether 'it' reached the rectum.

"Saiful said there was anal intercourse. However, the rectum is located above the anus, and the word stated there is confusing.

"At that moment, I did not know whether it reached the rectum. Saiful said the person ejaculated inside (his anus),” Razuin added, saying she noted that there had been 'penetration' as the details came from Saiful.

She then filled in the form stating the 'employer' as the person who sodomised Saiful.

Statement recorded twice

Cross-examined by Karpal Singh, Razuin said investigating officer Supt Jude Blacious Pereira recorded her statement twice.

"Once was some time in January 2010 (before the trial started). He recorded the second statement at my hometown three weeks ago, as I was under confinement. He specifically asked me about the pro-forma form."

NONE Karpal: Isn't the rectum part of the anus?

Razuin: The rectum is below, the anus is above.

Karpal: To get to the rectum, you have to go through the anus. For sodomy you have to go through the anus?

Razuin: Yes.

She was unsure whether penetration had reached the rectum. This is why she wrote 'yes' to 'rectal attempted' in the pro-forma form.

"It's sodomy even if the penetration did not reach the rectal area. That's the medical meaning of 'rectal attempted'," she said.

Asked why she did not record any reference about lubricant in the form as stated by Mohd Saiful in his testimony, Dr Razuin said she had recorded it in another piece of paper because the pro-forma form was for rape cases and that he HKL did not have specific forms for sodomy cases.

Replying Karpal again, she said Saiful had told her there was bleeding in his anus "the first and second time".

However, he said there was no bleeding on June 26, 2008 (the day of the alleged sodomy).

'Saiful wanted to be a pilot'

The next witness, Anwar's chief-of-staff Ibrahim Yaakob, said Saiful was a volunteer, not an employee. He was a general office worker and was normally made to run errands.

Ibrahim said that on June 26, 2008, Anwar had a meeting, a luncheon talk on the economy, with one Dr Ariff and others.

He said Anwar called him at the office and told him he had left an envelope that he needed on his table.

As he was busy, Ibrahim said, he told Saiful to send the envelope to the apartment in Damansara (he could not recall the full name).

Ibrahim said that, on June 27, 2008, Saiful resigned by sending an email, saying he could not perform his duties and that he wanted to be a “pilot”.

Saiful had, in his testimony earlier, told the court that his reason for resigning was that he was not disciplined.

However, he said that his primary reason was that he could not stand being sodomised.

The hearing continues at 9am tomorrow, with Pereira to testify. The prosecution may close its case after that.
