PKR deputy president Azmin Ali will file a civil suit against the government and police force for illegally disrupting the party's ceramah in Hulu Kelang on March 25.

The decision follows the failure of two top police officers and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to respond to his demand letter to apologise within 48 hours from Monday.

According to vice-president N Surendren, the civil suit will name the government, Hishammuddin, Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar, Ampang Jaya OCPD Amiruddin Jamaluddin and 16 other senior police officers who had ordered to crackdown on the event.

"We have aske NONE d for (the police officers') names and will be filing the suit as soon as possible," Surendren (left in photo) said after three Pakatan Rakyat representatives were questioned today in connection with the ceramah .

They are being investigated under Section 27(5) of the Police Act and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.

Surendren, a lawyer representing Azmin, said the police action that night gave rise to civil liabilities, including trespassing, disruption of the ceramah , assault and unlawful arrest.

The assembly, he said, was legal as it was conducted within the private compound of the Gombak MP's service centre.

He said three people were arrested that night while Azmin was pushed by the police when they stopped PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, who was speaking to the gathering.

"It is not our intention to make money. We (sent the demand letter) asking for an apology and for the police not to undertake these kinds of action again. So far, we have not heard anything... so we are taking them to court," Surendren said.

'Double standards'

NONE Talking to reporters later, Azmin said the police action over the ceramah smacked of double standards as it was clearly taking place in private premises.

He said this was unlike Deputy Prime Minister Muyiddin Yassin's " political event " in Kampung Pandan last night, which included a 1Malaysia dinner held within the compound of a mosque.

"I asked the officer who questioned me why there was no police report against the deputy premier who had an open political assembly in Kampung Pandan, which falls within same police district... but he could not answer," Azmin said.
