Pakatan Rakyat MPs are firm in their opposition to any motion in Parliament calling for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the sex video purportedly involving Anwar Ibrahim.

NONE "There is no reason or necessity to form a RCI over the sex video," DAP chairperson Karpal Singh told a press conference called by Pakatan MPs in the Parliament lobby today.

He said Pakatan would oppose any motion to form a RCI on the matter, both in the House and outside.

"What is the purpose?" Karpal asked, dismissing the move as politically motivated.

PAS Tumpat parliamentarian Kamaluddin Jaafar expressed his party's anger over the character assassination of the Anwar, who is Opposition Leader, and criticised the police for not directing their efforts to rooting out and arresting those responsible for the video.

Anwar had lodged a police report on March 22 after a video purportedly featuring him was screened to selected journalists and senior editors the day before. He has denied any involvement.

PKR's Subang parliamentarian R Sivarasa asked if there was police complicity in yesterday's leak of the 1:47 minute teaser of the video on popular video sharing site YouTube.

azlan Since 'Datuk T', the trio who have claimed responsibility for the screening of the sex video, had said they did not distribute copies to anyone and the only copies are now with the police, the question of police culpability in the uploading of the clip does arise, noted Sivarasa.

Pakatan's vehement opposition to the RCI was triggered after Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz told a news portal yesterday that the BN may table a motion to form a RCI.

The proposal for the RCI - to assess the authenticity of the tape - originally came from Risda chairperson Rahim Thamby Chik, one of the self-professed Datuk Trio.

The other two are businessman Shazryl Eskay and Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.
