Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) will be the best way to prove that the government was not behind the sex video implicating an opposition leader.

He added however that the proposal for the RCI should be table at the Dewan Rakyat to get the agreement of all, including opposition members.

"If the opposition members vote for the RCI, it shows that they don't practise double-standard on issues concerning one of their leaders," he told a news conference after attending the Defence Ministry's monthly gathering in Kuala Lumpur.

However, Ahmad Zahid said the motion might not get tabled in this sitting because a 14-day notice should be sent to the speaker's office first before it could be considered for tabling.

The current session of the Dewan Rakyat ends this week.

Dirty politics

In Ipoh, Wanita Umno information chief Hamidah Osman said the people can now make their own conclusion based on what was leaked of the sex video on the Internet.

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang today questioned the timing of the sex video clip, said to feature a prominent opposition figure, on YouTube yesterday afternoon.

He said that leaking the video before nomination tomorrow was dirty politics.

Kit Siang told reporters in Sibu that the leak was timed for impact.

The video clip was uploaded onto YouTube but was removed close to midnight yesterday.
