Ambiga death threat: Hisham orders police probe

Fellow Malaysian: I sure hope Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and his police force can make some sense out of this serious matter. Bersih chief S Ambiga has shown true grit and resolve in planning this Bersih 2.0 rally and every concerned rakyat should give her and her fellow team-mates their full support.

Ambiga stands for righteousness, integrity and justice, and I have always consider her as a capable, deft and bright person who will no doubt be our next leader in defending democracy and calling for the improvements to our country's governance.

Hishammuddin, if you uphold democratic principles and are true in protecting those that do so, do your part with equal sincerity in going after the culprit or culprits who has threatened her.

TehTarik: Months of inaction by the minister and we have come to this despicable moment.

Threats of violence against the Chinese. No action. Threats against the Indians. No action. Threats against Christians. No action. Threats against Hindus. No action. Fabricated sex tape against Anwar. No action. Cow head protesters. No action.

Now it is a death threat against the former Bar Council chairperson. The home minister is the worst we have had in our 53 years of Independence. The average Malaysian has zero faith that he will act against the perpetrators of this heinous SMS.

Louis: Do not give excuse that he himself received threats. Hishammuddin must know the difference. He has bodyguards around him 24 hours a day, whereas Ambiga is completely exposed.

Anyway, this situation could have been avoided if he had taken action against Ibrahim Ali long ago. Ibrahim has been given too much 'face' and freedom to utter whatever rubbish he sees fit.

Hishammuddin, as a citizen, I wonder who is running the country now? Ibrahim Ali or you and Najib.

Or will he hold another press conference to publicly endorse the sender of the message, like he did with the thugs who defiled a cow's head in protest of the relocation of a Hindu temple in Shah Alam? We saw this coming a million miles away.

Rakyat Malaysia: Ibrahim Ali, what is the solution? That should come from BN as well. Both sides should brainstorm solutions for the good of the rakyat. If BN cannot come up with a solution and keeps on asking the opposition to do so, then we might as well we send BN out in the next general election.

DannyLoHH: Hishammuddin has a very skewed view of the role of opposition party in a democracy. The opposition do not oppose for the sake of opposing. They oppose because there's something wrong.

Especially, in this case of the Australia-Malaysia asylum-seekers swap, the opposition party in Australia is opposing the deal because Malaysia has a very poor track record (hence a bad image) of treating refugees.

We treat refugees like criminals, lock them up, and send them away in vessels like farm animals. We also have corrupt officials who take advantage of refugees, with some even engaging in human trafficking themselves.

Bar Council backs all July 9 rallies, raps Hisham

Quigonbond: Before Perkasa say something stupid about the Bar Council being a Chinese outfit, let him be reminded that the Malaysian Bar stands at 13,000 members of all races, religion and gender, who are harmonised to a significant degree as to what constitutes justice and fairness, which goes to show these are universal values.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad is trying to restate his case that our democracy is unique because we are multi-racial, but questions like free and fair elections go beyond that. Hishammuddin Hussein was once a member of the bar. It's surprising how people change.

Dark Archon: This is a typical Umno response: anything is against them, it's not part of "our" culture. Anything that's for them or anything they agrees with, it's in "our" history.

Multi Racial: The Bar Council has always been the party that stood on the right side in times of difficulty. Malaysians applaud them for having the courage to do the right thing for Malaysia. I wish other organisations would have similar courage to do the same.

July 9: Perkasa announces four rally meeting points

Ong Guan Sin: Perkasa addresses "all peace-loving citizens"? What a lie. Perkasa is outright confrontational with a counter-rally to take pace at the same time and location.

If it's genuinely peace-loving, Perkasa should organise its rally on a different day and/or place. Added with the racially motivated threat from its leader Ibrahim Ali, it's obviously on the wrong side of democracy and basic rights and freedom.

Samuel Ng: Ibrahim Ali, how does fair elections destroy Malay power. Are you suggesting the Malays are in power because of illegal means?

I have voted for BN before but the corruption and abuse have negated my confidence in BN. I voted for PAS the last election. Aren't the ulama Malays? Ibrahim, oh Ibrahim, kamu masih di bawah tempurung (you're still living under the coconut shell).

KitaAkanSiasat: I believe Perkasa and Umno Youth are going to incite a racial riot during the Bersih rally. With police on their side, they will be protected. And if there's a fight started by them, the police will instead be pointing their fingers at Bersih.

I'll not be surprise if the anti-Bersih groups will wear the same yellow Bersih T-shirt on that day and try to infiltrate the Bersih group.

Borg Kinaulu: The powers-that-be should learn from the Middle East uprisings - if anyone from the peaceful protestors is hurt, or worse - killed - by the police or government-sponsored hooligans, it will become the rallying point for bigger protests that might eventually bring down the sitting government. Beware the hands that might slap yourself.
