Police arrested 21 people around the national capital from last night till 9am today on suspicion of planning to take part in illegal rallies.

According to a Bukit Aman police headquarters spokesman, those arrested are all men, aged between 16 and 60.

NONE He said 17 of them were nabbed last night while the rest were picked up this morning.

One of them had been released on police bail while the rest were still undergoing documentation process, he told Bernama when contacted.

Meanwhile, all roads leading to the city centre had been closed since last night.

However, traffic is under control on roads not affected by the closure, with policemen  were seen assisting motorists on routes they should take.

A city traffic police station spokesman said traffic was a bit congested on the Federal Highway in Subang, Batu 3 in Shah Alam and in Petaling Jaya.

"We've stationed our personnel at locations where traffic is being diverted to inform motorists about which roads they should to take," he told Bernama.

Selangor traffic police spokesman said the situation on roads around Selangor was normal and under control.
