Four mystery prosecution rebuttal witnesses are to take the stand in testifying at the Anwar Ibrahim sodomy trial today.

The four include an expert witness from a governmental hospital while the others remain unknown.

The role of these witnesses is mainly to challenge Dutch orthopaedic surgeon Dr Thomas Hoogland's ( left ) testimony earlier that it was not possible for Anwar to perform the alleged sex act.

Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted leave (permission) for the prosecution to call the rebuttal witness while the case is still at the defence stage.

The defence told the court yesterday that it had closed its case after deciding not to call former IGP Musa Hassan and Malacca police chief Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof to testify.

8.58am: The accused, Anwar Ibrahim, arrives with wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail along with a number of their supporters.

9.21am: The Kuala Lumpur High Court is still awaiting for top defence lawyer Karpal Singh before it can begin its proceedings. There are a few empty seats in the public gallery.

9.34am: Karpal arrives but Anwar, defence lawyer Sankara Nair and Wan Azizah are meeting him outside. It appears that they are discussing something important.

9.35am: Former Bukit Bintang MP Dr Lee Chong Meng is in the courtroom along with Anwar's daughter, Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

9.45am: Anwar along with Sankara andWan Azizah walks back into the courtroom after meeting Karpal outside. Karpal is also wheeled into court.

9.47am: Lead prosecutor, solicitor-general II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden is having a discussion with Karpal.

9.55am: Both the defence and prosecution are meeting in presiding judge Zabidin Mohd Diah 's chambers.

10.05am: Parties emerge from chambers after meeting the judge for 10 minutes.
