So Umno condones action of Wanita chief
YOURSAY 'If she is as selfless and sincere as asserted by Noh Omar, why didn't she resign as head of Wanita Umno?'
BN takes potshot at PKR over Shahrizat's resignation
Swkdayaks:
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Ahmad Maslan, ask your youngest son whether he thinks it is proper for the RM250 million be spent on condominiums, registered under the personal names of Shahrizat Abdul Jalil's family members, and the money spent by way of their personal credit cards.
Surely your son will disagree with you.
GoneBananas: If I recall correctly, Ahmad Maslan was once an ardent ally of former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.
But when he saw Anwar accused of sodomy and imprisoned for 15 years - and other Keadilan leaders harassed and detained under the ISA and sent to Kamunting - Ahmad chickened out of the fight for reform and returned to the Umno fold.
Now his guilty conscience is weighing on him, and like former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor, he can only defend his cowardice and greed by defending the utterly diseased party infested with rent-seekers created by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, which has little in common with the original Umno founded in 1946 by idealistic teachers, intellectuals and civil servants.
Teh: My question to Agriculture Minister Noh Omar and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein: Would Shahrizat's husband be awarded the project if she wasn't his wife?
Based on what other merit was he awarded the multimillion ringgit project?
FellowMalaysian: Shahrizat is not resigning. She is leaving her appointed position as a minister as her senatorship is expiring and under the current embattled situation she is in, it will be foolhardy for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to reappoint her.
So it is wrong to assume that her relinquishing her post is an 'act of sacrifice' as claimed by Umno cohorts. If she is as selfless and sincere as asserted by Noh Omar, why didn't she resign as head of Wanita Umno?
Multi Racial: In the first place, Shahrizat did not sacrifice anything. She clink on to her minister position until she has no choice.
Her senatorship is coming to an end, and without being a senator, she cannot be a minister. It is just as simple as that.
If she was genuine in sacrificing herself, she would have resigned from all positions the moment the scandal was exposed. But she did not then and she did not now.
Anonymous_40a7: "PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Ismail continued to be PKR president when her husband Anwar Ibrahim was pronounced guilty. Why didn't she resign?" asked Maslan.
Well, Shahrizat quit being a cabinet minister, but remain as Umno and BN Wanita chief. So what are you trying to say here again, dumbo?
Lover Boy: Ahmad Maslan, can Shahrizat remain a senator when her terms expires in April? She cannot, so what resignation are you talking about?
Likewise her post in the cabinet will also have to come to an end. She however will remain as Wanita chief.
I cannot understand your comparison of Shahrizat "alleged" resignation with Wan Azizah being the PKR president. What is the nexus?
Changeagent: There's a world of difference between Wan Azizah's and Shahrizat's circumstances.
One's husband was convicted on trumped-up sodomy charges that have since been repealed and overturned.
The other's husband has mounting and overwhelming evidence against him for misappropriating RM250 million of public funds to purchase super-luxury condominiums, Mercedes, prime land, supermarket and commercial properties.
One had nothing to do with her husband's charges at all, and was just an innocent bystander in the vicious and malicious campaign to politically assassinate him.
The other had everything to do with the allegations against her husband and children since it was her own political clout and connections that had enabled them to win the NFC (National Feedlot Corporation) project in the first place.
Ahmad Maslan must either be too blinded by his own political affiliations to see this difference objectively, or he is just plain ignorant.
Hibiscus: It is illogical for Maslan to draw parallel between Wan Azizah and Shahrizat. To start with, the two women are miles apart in their values and temperament.
Wan Azizah is much loved by PKR members. She does not crave for post of president, it was given to her without contest.
In contrast, Shahrizat is seen to be unpopular, fending off competitors ruthlessly, fiercely clinging on to ministerial and party posts, despite calls from her party elders, etc, to resign.
Wan Azizah stood by her husband as he went through the agony of public humiliation. In contrast, Shahrizat is seen to be trying to distant herself from troubles of her husband and children.
Wan Azizah, by taking place of her husband in politics when he went to prison, was defending his honour. In contrast, Shahrizat, by resisting calls for her to resign has inflicted much unnecessary damage to her husband and children's reputation.
Not to forget, how does one compare the children of Wan Azizah and the children of Shahrizat?
Onyourtoes: Tell you what, Ahmad Maslan; can you please ask Shahrizat not to resign since it is such a big sacrifice.
We do not want her to suffer as much like Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, so please ask her not to resign. In fact, please ask her to stand again in Lembah Pantai.
