The family of P Chandran, 47, who died in the lock-up at the Dang Wangi district police station in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, wants a probe into the death.

Johor PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kayat, who attended the wake at Simpang Renggam, Johor yesterday, said Chandran's family was concerned over the wounds on his body.

NONE "The deceased's brother, Gunalan, found cuts on the forhead and torso, around the ribs and is not able to determine the cause of the wounds," Suhaizan said in a statement this afternoon.

He said Gunalan lodged a police report on behalf of his family at the Simpang Renggam police station last night as the there appeared to be "discrepancies" over the time of Chandran's death.

"The family was informed of the death at 10pm but the time of death was recorded as 11.55pm on Sept 10. Why was family informed of his death earlier, and was Gunalan still alive at the time?" he asked.

'Sudden death'

He said the preliminary post-mortem report noted that Chandran, a father of six, died of "hypertensive heart disease".

NONE "The family is not satisfied with this because Chandran's wife had informed the police beforehand that her husband suffered from hypertension and needed to take his medication daily," Suhaizan ( left ) said.

According to Dang Wangi police chief Zainuddin Ahmad, Chandran was found dead about 7.20pm on Sept 10, when police tried to rouse him from sleep.

Bernama quoted Zainuddin as saying that Chandran, a lorry driver, died of heart disease and that the case has been classified as "sudden death".

Zainuddin added that the deceased was arrested on Sept 6 on suspicion of involvement in a kidnapping that took place in Sungai Besi.
