MCA debate: Message more important than messenger

YOURSAY 'MCA's Chua Tee Yong, you should have been man enough to debate the MB's appointed representatives.'

MB reps walk out of Talam debate

your say Blind Freddo: Here are some facts that some of you might find it difficult to digest. If Khalid Ibrahim accepted MCA MP for Labis Chua Tee Yong's challenge to debate, then it's up to the Selangor MB to prepare his case.

He's lucky because he has inside knowledge, the secret audit firm KPMG report, the support of those other four politicians and the support of the whole of the Selangor public service to make sure he does a good job at convincing the voters once and for all that everything about the Talam Corporation business is above board.

But what did he do, he opted out.

Odin: Blind Freddo, a debate is about facts. My point is that it is not the done thing for Khalid to go into a public debate with someone of Chua Tee Yong's stature.

Sarawak CM Taib Mahmud also refused to go into a public debate with Sarawak PKR leader Baru Bian on the subject of land grabbing as the latter was not an elected representative.

I still maintain that Khalid is too high up the hierarchy to face Tee Yong, who is practically a nobody. Tee Yong wants facts, then Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and the rest have them.

One more very important thing. Tee Yong initially boasted that he would expose Khalid's government bailing out Talam to the tune of RM1 billion. He not only has failed miserably to do what he said he would, but he also has made an utter fool of himself by changing his stories, lowering his figures and picking on part of the whole.

Many readers here who have had accountancy training have pointed out his dismal knowledge. To me, he is nothing more than an incorrigible brat out to create mischief.

Tancc: CTY (Chua Tee Yong) is asking for a debate on Talam issue. Selangor send in an A Team, endorsed by the MB, to debate with MCA. If it is about the Talam issue, CTY should just debate on the issue. CTY can even bring his team to the debate.

What happened was an obvious case of politicking and mud slandering by CTY. CTY has lost all credibility by not backing his case with facts and the conduct of the audience at the debate just show their level of maturity.

Mushiro: CTY, you should have been man enough to debate the MB's appointed representatives. The objective of the debate is to discuss your claim of Talam's ills, so you could have whacked them with your 'facts'.

But sadly and shamefully you came with just rhetoric - that is about all that you and MCA have.

Aris: This brings to mind the parable "Let him who has not sinned cast the first stone". The analogy is drawn here on whether Chua has the moral standing to point his fingers and keep on harassing Khalid despite the latter's many clarifications.

Unless he himself, including his parties MCA/BN are squeaky-clean and faultless, he should refrain from tarnishing others in the pursuit of his political ambitions.

Furthermore, the accusation so far has not been about corruption or CBT (criminal breach of trust). It is merely an issue regarding asset valuation which thus far has been a matter of opinion and even if it turns out that the MB has made an error of judgement, it still does not make him a criminal unless there is evidence to that effect.

Nevertheless, the manner and behaviour of the younger Chua in this instance is not only uncouth and annoying but it is unbecoming of a deputy minister, to say the least.

Calling off the debate despite the MB sending his representatives tantamount to immaturity and arrogance.

Kowshit: Why is CTY making such a big hue and cry on the Talam deal and demanding that only the MB debate with him? Isn't that too egoistic and overly ambitious?

It was clear from the very beginning the Talam deal was done above board with approvals all given by the regulating bodies. If there is any element of corruption, CTY should present it to the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) and Umno would be very please. But there is none.

Two Eye Ball: Although he claims to be an accountant, he doesn't know basic accounting. Even if you explain this Talam case to a student, he will tell you that what PKR did is right and what MCA had done was wrong.

Common sense applies here. Actually this is all ‘wayang' (a show). There is no need for the MB to explain or debate anything. CTY is just a clown and I would advise PKR not to dance to their tune.

Furthermore, CTY also does not know the meaning of "delegate" or "appointed".

Disgusted: Khalid is more a technocrat than a gutter politician. He does not take part much in ceramah or debates, but is an honest and excellent administrator. Selangor is in safe hands with him at the helm as he is a no-nonsense and hardworking MB.

Therefore, he would not want to get involved in a dogfight where he would be humiliated with nonsensical allegations, insinuations and even untruths. All the facts of the deal is in the auditor's report and KMPG too has a reputation to maintain.

Besides, MACC is waiting to pounce on any anomaly found in the administration of the state. So what is the beef, Chua and MCA?

Wasn't it your own crony who was ‘buddy buddy' with the previous MB Muhd Muhammad Taib who was the cause it all when the land and easy financing and support was given by the then BN government to him, and now Pakatan is doing its darnest to recover and set things right, instead of writing them off as BN often does.

Anonymous #79199503: I am an ex-member of MCA. I would like to debate Chua Soi Lek on the alleged RM1 billion scandal on TAR College land in Setapak.

Tee Yong, go pick on someone your own size
