Foreign funds not illegal, money laundering is

VOXPOP 'Umno still doesn't get it. Foreign funds, if properly accounted for, is not illegal. It is cash being smuggled into the country which is illegal.'

Come clean on RM40m 'donation', DAP tells gov't

your say Wira: Why are we worrying about Israel and foreign powers undermining our country while crooks in Putrajaya are already undermining our economy with their greed?

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua is right. If RM40 million can be brought into this country without proper accountability and documentation simply because the money is for the purported reason of shoring up a corrupt regime, then the government should first come clean on this before they have the moral authority to impose restrictions on foreign funds.

Gerard Lourdesamy: It's very odd that a political donation originates offshore from the British Virgin Islands goes through Switzerland before being channelled from Hong Kong to Sabah.

Why all the cloak and dagger if everything is above board? If it was Pakatan Rakyat receiving the RM40 million, all hell would have broken loose by now.

What is the source of these funds? Does it involve billionaire financier George Soros? So it's alright for the BN to receive foreign funding but not Suaram, Malaysiakini or other NGOs? This is hypocrisy at its best.

I suggest that the government study the Indian Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act 2010 and the Foreign Contributions Regulations 2011, if it is sincere about wanting a transparent system to regulate and control foreign funding of political parties, societies, trades unions and NGOs.

Dianne A Simon: Anyway, the opposition should support this suggestion by de facto Law Minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz since it will bring transparency to a new level.

Every foreign fund will be scrutinise and identified. After all, greater transparency is what the opposition is looking for all this while, right?

The government has locus standi to implement such a law. After all, they are the government. Any objection can be made by the opposition at the parliamentary debate on the proposed law.

Aloysius Ting: A parliamentary register detailing all political donations should be set up. All political parties by a certain date should report to Parliament the donations received by them which are over a predetermined threshold.

The register should be made accessible to any interested persons

GreyGoose: Another stupid law to prevent organisation and parties from getting funds from international funders.

Anonymous #88188: Past experience do tell, BN would not expose anything about themselves since they are already too corrupted (from fish head to tail) to do so.

The best solution rests on the coming GE. What can we say if the people decide to choose the more corrupt party?

I myself enjoy a good living, but I feel sorry to those many rakyat still suffering due to uncontrolled corrupt practices and misuse of power prevailing in this country. Malaysia can do much better.

We were at same level with South Korea in the 1980s, and now we can all see how far it has gone.

Not Convinced: Umno still didn't get it. Foreign funding coming into the country, if properly accounted for, is not illegal. It is cash being smuggled into the country which is illegal.

Cari Makan: Where is the RM40,000,000 now?

Up to AG whether to act against Suaram, says Zahid

2ctsworth: Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, you have declared that the purchase of Scorpenes was above board. That's it? How is it that it your declaration gets to be treated as gospel truth? Are you God?

Prime Minister Najib Razak had also declared his non-involvement and innocence to a number of various suspicious allegations. Is he the Almighty?

Just because you sit on high chairs don't make you infallible and not answerable to allegations. Your arrogance stinks to high heavens.

Fair Play: Wow, I didn't realise that 'harping' on the purchase of the Scorpene submarines is considered a criminal act.

Disgusted: Zahid, stop lying that there is no investigation by French authorities into the Scorpene deal.

The investigation is still going on, the only thing is they are a bit slow as they do things very thoroughly - unlike our police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here, they make sure they have a watertight case as their judiciary is not one-sided like in Bolehland.

Keturunan Malaysia: Zahid, just because you, your colleagues and the attorney-general (AG) are crazy, it doesn't mean the rest of Malaysians must be crazy as well.

As a word of caution, Malaysians hate crazy people, more so if they have to put up with crazy leaders.

Supercession: Isn't leaving it to the attorney-general the same as leaving it to Najib?
