DPM: PAS won't have support if Malays back DAP
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin took a swipe at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's call to the Malays to back DAP, saying PAS will not have any support left if this come true.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin took a swipe at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's call to the Malays to back DAP, saying PAS will not have any support left if this comes true.
"If all the Malays join DAP, then PAS will not have any members left," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
Muhyiddin ( right ) was responding to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's criticism of MCA as racist and his call for Malays to back the DAP instead.
Adding on, Muhyiddin said he was puzzled at assertions that MCA was racist but DAP was not.
“We all know, particularly for Malay Muslims, that DAP is not a party that champions all the races.
“They do not contest in Malay areas, only in the cities,” he said.
As such, Muhyiddin said DAP could not safeguard the interests of the Malays.
Furthermore, Muhyiddin said the party had not walked the talk, pointing the Penang’s banning of pro-government media despite professing press freedom.
He added that rifts between PAS and DAP had continuously emerged and their relationship had often been shaky and questioned if Abdul Hadi’s statement was sincere.
“The relationship between DAP and PAS had never been strong, I don’t know whether the PAS president was being sarcastic when he made that statement (that Malays should support DAP),” he said.
