The Puteri Umno movement is ready to approach the fence-sitters to find out their needs and aspiration so that they can make the right choice by supporting the government during the 13th general election.

Puteri head Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said that for this purpose, the movement would set up a special squad to evaluate the need for this special group to woo the fence sitters.

NONE “The squad will undertake a survey to evaluate their immediate needs. Their needs can change easily and the squad needs to approach them all the time until the general election.

“Their needs will be conveyed directly to the government,” she said in her policy speech entitled ‘Struggle’ at the movement’s general assembly at the Dewan Tun Hussein Onn, Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Also present were Umno supreme council members Shaziman Abu Mansor, Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi and Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim.

Rosnah said that for this purpose, Puteri Umno would also set up a monitoring squad to determine if anything had been left out or if there was any oversight.

azlan She said this was important to ensure that Umno did not lose the people’s votes because of circumstances that were beyond expectation although the government had implemented various programmes including the 1Malaysia People’s Aid programme (BR1M), 1Malaysia People’s Shop (KR1M), et cetera.

“Puteri also wants to intensify efforts by the ‘cybertroopers’ to continue to get closer to the people so that the programmes that we carry out can reach the grassroots directly through correct information,” she said.

Rosnah said Puteri Umno would also intensify unofficial or ‘santai’ programmes involving the people directly without any protocol, and mobilised continuously right up to the 13th general election.

Several action plans

In order to get closer to the young generation in a constructive manner, Rosnah said Puteri Umno had drawn up several action plans to ensure that this group was not left out of the mainstream struggle.

NONE She said the first step was the setting up of the ‘IDEA Secretariat’ which would comprise young women with various backgrounds to operate as an independent body in carrying out fresh and unique activities.

She said Puteri also wanted to intensify activities and tour campaigns nationwide in efforts to counter the politics of perception and slanders.

Rosnah said Puteri Umno would also set up a political academy and a talent scouting committee to be known as ‘Mentor’ to guide the second-liners.

She said a Malaysian Young Women’s Summit Meeting was also being planned to discuss various issues concerning young women and their future direction regardless of their political background.
