Penang PAS has denied ever organising a rally against DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh to criticise him for interfering with the party's syura council.

NONE State PAS commissioner Salleh Man (left) confirmed that the rally was not organised by PAS and that it could have included a few "disgruntled" members who have no position in the party.

"We know who they are. They feel neglected. We have proper channels in Pakatan Rakyat, where we bring up issues with one another," Salleh told Malaysiakini .

"There are times when we agree on issues, they are other times when we disagree. But this does not mean we are fighting."

Salleh, who is Permatang Pasir assemblyperson, said as far as the use of the word 'Allah' is concerned, PAS would abide by the decision of the syura council.

He was responding to a rally at Jalan Greenhall by some 10 men claiming to be PAS members, who warned Karpal to keep his hands off the party's syura council on religious matters.

Karpal, he added, had the right to express his views and that the issue would be resolved internally.

On the protesters' demand for his resignation, saying he was unfit to hold position as the president of the Penang Islamic Affairs Council, Salleh dismissed the comment politiely.

"They do not know what we are doing. Whatever they do, everyone can see as it is featured in the media," he said with a laugh.

The rally, led by former Penang PAS Youth chief Mohd Hafiz Mohd Nordin, said Karpal should resign as DAP chief if he does not comply with their demand not to interfere with the PAS syura council.

NONE Meanwhile, the DAP laughed off the so-called rally held outside Karpal's legal office on Jalan Greenhall.

Dato Keramat assemblyperson Jagdeep Singh Deo ( right ) pointed out that one of the protesters holding PAS flags was wearing an orange coloured "Janji ditepati" T-shirt, which was distributed during Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's recent visit to Penang.

"They claim to represent PAS but what is unfortunate is that the pictures show them wearing the Najib T-shirt," Jagdeep told a press conference today.

"However, what is more important is that PAS has denied ever organising the event, and that the party has nothing to do with the demonstration.

"It is unfortunate that certain parties are politicising the issue to the extent of falsely presenting themselves," he added.
